Woah the pony a sec mate, I'm not knocking Thrust SSCs achievements at all, breaking the sound barrier on land is an amazing feat. All I'm saying is, that in my opinion a car is wheel-driven and not propelled by thrust that's all.

I think Mr Fink took my comment in the spirit intended. As it happens I don't think there's a huge spiritual gulf between what Richard Noble's thrust team did and what American hot-rodders and drag racers do. It's all about ambition, dedication, engineering ingenuity, and getting jaw dropping performance using what's to hand on a budget which wouldn't cover the sandwiches at Ferrari for a week...

That's the problem with modern England. As soon as we're the best at something, someone has to spoil it by saying it doesn't count. It was built to go the fastest in a straight line just as a top fuel dragster is built to accelerate the quickest in a straight line or an F1 car is built to go round a circuit quicker than anything else or a rally car is the fastest through a forest etc etc. Come on fellas, let's be proud of our achievements! Anyway, what the f@ck has this got to do with a cool as ya like roller? smile
Stevie, I am sorry if I gave the impression that I was dissing the English, that was not my intent. I have a huge amount of admiration for what the Thurst crew achieved and take great delight in rubbing it the faces of the Americans when I go to the States. As a matter of fact the video on YouTube is one of my favs. Having followed Drag racing and Land Speed record attempts for the the last 30 years I am facinated by what can be made to go fast. Its just personnally I identify more with wheel driven cars. As an example I followed the JCB record runs with huge interest and was delighted when they got the record.

And yes the Roller is very cool. I am hoping to start my own new Hotrod project soon that will be a 36 Ford 3 window coupe with a blown and injected aluminum chevy V8.

I have no idea why, but I really love that.
Completely agree.

It's so wrong, but I want it! Even the bling bits somehow look great on that classic Rolls shape!

Must go have a lie down...

The Daimler engine was no relation to the RR one. It was designed by Edward Turner and was a fantastic piece of kit - especially the 4.5 litre version in the Daimler Majestic Major.
Steve Dennish of Limeworks, has one of the rare 4.5 litre Daimler Hemi's in his 32 roadster......confuses the hell out of the Americans at US rod shows.....biggrin

Scene from Thunderbirds. In Lady Penelope's Mansion

(Intercom rings in Chauffer's quarters)
Lady P: Parker?
Parker: Yus M'Lady
Lady P: Parker I need to get to the airport to meet Geoff & the Thunderbird boys. Get the Rolls out please.
Parker: Yus M'Lady, which one?
Lady P: Which one Parker? I thought I only had one!
Parker: No M'Lady- two. There's the daft 4 wheel steer muff-coloured one and then there's the Silver 1040 BHP Motherf...r of a Roller that scares the fertiliser out o' me.
Lady P: Geoff's plane landed 10 minutes ago-you decide.
Parker: Very good M'Lady. That'll be the silver baby then.
Lady P: Very well Parker. Oh & Parker- pack your change of underwear.
Parker: Yus M'Lady

(Parker disappears into his underwear drawer simultaneously getting excited and filling his pants already)

Camera pans away to garage with Silver RR panting heavily alongside the muff jobbie.

Is the Roller V8 very tuneable then?
Bentley get 530 BHP in production, fully homologated, euro-legal, factory warrantied trim in the Brooklands so I'd say it was pretty tuneable :-)

Yes, but that's from a capacity of 6,750cc so it's hardly outragous. Lots of manufacturers achieve much higher specific outputs, from admittedly much more modern designs.
