RE: Boxstera GT
Discussion
I couldn't resist enquiring via the advery what the hell he was thinking of!!
I await his response....
I especially like the comment "5 people take pictures of me when I drive it" ..... yes, and laugh......
Just to to give you a comparison, there is a 2005 996 GT3 on US ebay for $75000! He will never ever get $80000 for that abomination!

LOL it looks like a cross between the original batmobile and a pickup truck! although from some angles it looks alright......still, an embarassment! with the money this unfortunate chap must have spent ruining his perfectly fine 986 boxster s he could of got himself a half decent 911. Funny stuff.
Oh by the way for all the Boxster haters.....ever think that for the money of a new 987 Boxster S you could buy a very nice 3 year old carrera? idiots.

There's nothing that says 'I wish I had a better Porsche but could only afford a Boxster' quite like this
Ignoring the obvious point that the car is hideous the actual point that the article makes at the start is one that has always annoyed me slightly. Why do people say a Boxster is a "poor" mans 911 when everyone knows that they are a very accomplished car in their own right. Its just like saying I only got a 911 C4 as I couldn't afford a turbo, or I only got a turbo because I couldn't afford a GT2!
Stating the bleeding obvious or what! If I could afford a bloomin Carerra GT of course I wouldn't buy a Boxster! - (nor would I do what this guy did but thats not the point lol)
I've only got a house with 2 bedrooms as I couldn't afford one with 10! I live in a poor mans house
"He couldn't afford a 911", You could say the same thing about many cars (90% of them). Just because it's cheap for a porsche doesn't mean it's cheap per say...
You don't say about a gallardo driver: haha, look at that wannabe-Murci-owner...

That's scary. Like someone else said, if they have this much "talent" why dont they come up with something really original, maybe something like the Reventon...something that really turns heads the right way.
Interesting comment, Alan. I wonder what the reaction would have been if the Reventon was never an official factory model, but merely a car that a wealthy enthusiast had created from a source Murci.Ace Sportscars said:
Hahahahah...rubbish! That wouldn't fool anyone. Its bad enough having a boxter let alone doing that to it
I take it you've driven a lot of Boxsters to come to that conclusion? Plenty of my customers have them and they are almost universally loved, for the money they offer a great driving experience, an electric roof, plenty of style etc.I'm surprised someone claiming to work with sports cars has such a blinkered view let alone not know how to spell the word, then again your website doesn't work and the only references to your company I can find through Google are some dodgy link referrers.

Well said, the Boxster is a stunning car and people love to say bad things about it without ever even driving one!
I've driven one (several actually) and didn't like it much. Does that help?ETA: Actually that's not fair. It wasn't as good as I was expecting but given its mixed brief it's a pretty good effort. If only they'd got a bit more feel in the steering.

Only in America. No doubt the advert will refer to 'rims' and the details 'giving you an ego', and no doubt the owner's interior shot of the car will also show a pair of Oakleys and a mid-range mobile phone perceived to be some kind of premium product 'left casually' on the centre console.
In the UK replicas (or 'RELPICCA'S' in FleaBay parlance) are dodgy back-yard things built by people with a sense of irony (obviously I'm talking Toyota F355s, not Proteus Jaguars and Westfield XIs here). In America, it seems they're seriously big business and people will pay a hell of a lot for a Pontiac Fiero with a new bodyshell and fiddled suspension. Go to www.kitcars.com to see the devastating effects of a life lived without a sense of irony:
For example - $38,000 (nearly £20k) gets you this:
Looks the part, a lot of money clearly went into it, but it's just a Pontiac Fiero V6 underneath. And an automatic at that - but wait - they've even tried to disguise the automatic shifter as a manual:
And here's a 'Ferrari Testarossa' - again, a lot of time and money has gone into it, but not only is it based on a Camaro (and therefore the engine isn't just wrong, it's in the wrong place), he's given it a 200mph speedometer (don't know whether it's a transfer set fo the original so it makes it look like he's doing 200 when he's doing 110), he's also added, and I quote, 'a James Bond motorized flip plate at the rear'. Yours for $32,500 (£16,250):
Lots of time, effort and money goes into these and people feel really proud to be seen in them. The question is - why???
Well thank god that thanks to the credit crunch Middle America now have no more money to create these...In the UK replicas (or 'RELPICCA'S' in FleaBay parlance) are dodgy back-yard things built by people with a sense of irony (obviously I'm talking Toyota F355s, not Proteus Jaguars and Westfield XIs here). PD at least have a bit more credibility than the average replica company as their products have the endorsement of the Lamborghini family (Ferrucio became pissed off with his company in the late '70s and sold it to Patrick Mimran - shortly after he turned up at a kit car show, endorsed the Prova (the company that became PD) Countach replica and said it was built to a better standard than his own, and allowed journalists to photograph him with the car. Since then, Tonino Lamborghini, his son, has allowed them to use the Miura and Countach names.Incidentally, the Parallel Designs replicas are based on stripdowns of the original Lamborghinis, with minimal alteration to accommodate new engines. IMO they're continuations of the Miura, Countach and Diablo now that Lamborghini has stopped building them. No different to the Jaguar and Lotus replicas that get a very different reception by car fans.
They are a world away from bodykitted Fieros.

What is wrong with a Boxster exactly?
Crap steering feel, excessive weight, strange throttle response (on some cars, not others, for some reason), price, looks, badge... There are lots of things that are right with the Boxster, but there are plenty that are wrong too.

Weight? It's lighter than a 911. Sure it's not light like an Elise - lardy in comparison - but there again, as you say, it does things right like boot space, creature comforts etc
Price? It's great value!
Looks? Eye of beholder...
Badge? Same as 911!
Throttle response: Mine was absolutely brilliant for the first six years. Not I feel it isn't quite what it was. I'll be having them look into it...
