42k miles - £21,950

Quite a lot of opulence for the money.

I remember being behind one on the M1 once. The car in front of him moved out of the way, and the last thing I saw was the back end of the Bentley go down before it disappeared into the distance at speed a car that size really shouldn't have.

Impressed and jealous in equal measure.

I love mine.

We've just done 3000 miles in it camping in France for a few weeks, and yes, it did get some very funny looks on the campsites hehe

They have many, many faults. But you can forgive them all as whether you are charging hard, simply pottering along, or just sitting in it standing still and drinking in the ambience, there is nothing quite like it. I have had mine for seven years now, I have loved it, I have hated it, I have abused it, I have cherished it, I have sprinted it and tracked it many times, and also stuffed it big time at MIRA. It has been to Le Mans a few times, and has taken me and the family on some fantastic holiday trips across Europe. I have kept it fastidiously maintained on an ordinary income, and it costs me an absolute fortune. I had it stripped and painted a couple of years ago, which cost far more than it's actually worth, absolute madness, but it looks like new. I won't ever part with it.

Apologies to Ollie, he asked me to contribute for this article a few months back, and I didn't get around to it, then I forgot all about it, so sorry for that.

That's a great story and it sounds like you get a lot of fun from the car! Fire up some more pics smile

Being the proud owner of a beautiful 1986 Turbo R, what Ollie says is absolutely correct, the comfort, power, speed and safety is amazing, and the car does shrink and handles unbelievably.

Bentley - Old chap sees my efforts, squeezes another 2mm of throttle

First the back end dropped a little
Then the front end raised a little
Then he sucked the horizon closer to him and buggered off into the distance like the Saturn 5 had been fitted to a stately home.

A 10K car will probably cost you 5-10 to get running and driving nicely, and of course the lack of servicing abuse that caused this expense will also be present in the condition of the car in general. Hence the huge price variance on what appear in adverts to be similar cars.

(...)

Fuel is a killer (no worse than a petrol RR though as I found out) but you have to look at the big picture - depreciation, ongoing repairs etc.

One person in this thread remarked on the bouncy and sickening ride! This is common on these cars where the suspension is totally shot. The only solution is to change the legs, set up the ride height and if it is an active ride model (post 90 ish) the active ride settings. Transforms the car, but you are looking at 800 quid per leg for parts alone, hence the reason some people do not change them until their breakfast lasts about 5 minutes into the journey every morning!
