Who has the best Garage on Pistonheads?
Discussion
Very nice...!
As soon as we bought our last house I immediately implemented an 'no none car stuff' rule and my wife never went anywhere near it
Built her a shed to keep her out the way. Garage is my zone. Literally, apart from 1/4 of our bedroom, the only other part of the house that was mine was the garage!

We have just finished a major revamp of our garage.
Once it was finally empty. (It is amazing how much clutter you accumulate in just a few years).
The ceiling was plaster boarded, skimmed and painted, the walls painted and the floor tiled with porcelain tiles with an upstand.
We decided not to repaint the vice, it belonged to my late grandfather and it just looks better with 50 years of usage and associated scuff marks on it.
Given I want to use the garage to look after a couple of cars, we also put an 8x16ft shed on the side for additional storage.
Final job is to re-gravel the driveway. Inevitably the gravel has just shifted away over time, makes getting the car in and out of the garage a real pain at the moment.
Mind me asking the manufacturer of the hooking system you've installed. Been looking for something adjustable like that for ages for the bikes!Once it was finally empty. (It is amazing how much clutter you accumulate in just a few years).

We use it for three bikes and it works really well, it is StoreWall made by Dura - http://www.duragarages.com/wall-storage.htmlRichUK said:

It was all going so well...Given I want to use the garage to look after a couple of cars, we also put an 8x16ft shed on the side for additional storage.
That shed ruins it, couldn't you have done something a bit more sympathetic with a pitched roof ?

Fair question. The design is sympathetic to the property next door, in terms of cladding, roofing and roof line. We could have gone for a pitched roof, but we didn't feel we needed one and I wanted to keep the shed costs down too. That shed ruins it, couldn't you have done something a bit more sympathetic with a pitched roof ?

Having rented out our plac for seven years, and waved goodbye to the garage I spent two years building, we have now returned to the fold and I am in the process of clearing out and sorting out said garage once again.
The last photo I took in March 2010, before it was handed over to another motor-head, who used to its full potential :
Some flashbacks to 2006/7:
I remember the build thread and watched it with interest as I was doing something similar at the time, albeit on a slightly smaller scale. Didn't realise that it was so long ago mind...The last photo I took in March 2010, before it was handed over to another motor-head, who used to its full potential :

Why thank you sir. It was indeed an interesting and challenging project.Oh, and welcome back.
I built an even bigger one in the Phils, well, this time I had people do it for me. And a six bedroom house too........all for sale now......
My Double Garage still a Work in Progress.. and may not rival some of these mega Garages but will be a showroom rather than a Garage.
First though , Whilst the Garage is being renovated i needed somewhere to house my baby, so started by building another single Garage on the side of my house.
The main Garage is a precast job and is about 15years old. So far i have sealed all the panel gaps, built an inner wall frame in CLS timber, insulated between , covered with a vapour barrier and then OSB sheeting. I have replaced the window with a new UPVC unit and I have tubular heaters to be fitted shortly . That will be phase 1 complete
Then i need to get back to the main job of restoring the Factory V8 MGB shown in the pictures , this will entail some messy work, so i am going to wait till thats done before progressing with phase 2 which will fitting a floor, carpets, painting the walls, hanging posters, fitting the rest of the lighting , decking out with some nice automobilia etc.
Problem holding me up now is that during the recent cold spell the roof which did look like it had a good few years left has cracked and is letting in a little water. Its not asbestos , but i am thinking an over-roof might make sense as it will allow insulation to be added on-top of the existing roof and then a metal roof added on-top of that. Anyone know anybody in Essex who can do that kind of thing at a reasonable price ?

You could do that yourself kille ... if you did the single you could easily do that double. Or is it a time thing?Any more pics of the V8? You don't see a lot about any more (ever).

Yeah probably could do it myself, im not sure where to get supplies from and as you say would take me ages. so think i will get a quote from a roofer.. i have got someone coming round next weekend so hopefully he can do it for a reasonable price.... if the old roof was coming off i would say definitely no as would need it done in a day to keep stuff dry. (Sorry bit below is off topic )
Yes not many V8's left ( wasn't many to start with ! ) I had 2 at one point, but really wanted a black one so ended up buying this and eventually selling my red one. Its a Rubber Bumper but i prefer RB when they are black.
It was my daily driver for a while, but has been off the road for about 15yrs, only needs sills, and half rear wings, a few bits and bobs + gearbox repair (that was faulty when i bought it). So hopefully will not be too difficult a job .
