The previous owner even went to the trouble of tiling the splashback areas when he moved the old house kitchen into the garage for the full kitchen effect.

The sink and tiled floor are welcome additions. The long run of kitchen units makes reversing in a bit interesting, and they're not particular great for storing tools.
Kitchen cabinets >>>> Kitchens
Garage cabinets >>>> Garages

IMHO of course wink
Cabinats are cabinates. Would spending 4K on some steel cabinates look better? Yeah it would look more slik. But reusing the old cabinates when you rip them out of the kitchen is a great idea.

He could always paint them red/black.

Sometimes you got to make do.
Indeed, far better than nothing and looks like a decent working surface too.

No, cabinets are not cabinets. Kitchen cabinets aren't up to the job, the bases of drawers begin to drop out, handles comes loose, bits chip off them and moisture gets into the material and makes them swell - and I wouldn't want my garage to look like a kitchen thanks.

You don't have to spend £4K, you can get a run of good steel products that look great and will last a lifetime in a garage for £1 - 1.5K. And don't say "it's only a garage" because that's similar to saying "it's only a car".

I do too but I'm always a little disappointed that it's just a comment and not a pic of a garage.
Mine again but this time with rhythm..........

That looks more business like, love it, 7k though!
I was left 3 BT boxes when our company acquired some commercial premises anout 10 years ago, I put one on top of the other as an office and built some steps, I'll be selling soon, as like I say, I want to build a workshop.

Just to keep the kitchen cabinet debate alive (hehe), here's the previous owner's solution to tool racking...

View from the door end. It's amazing how much house move detritus seems to have found it's way back into the garage since moving in!

Need to sort the lightning out first. Both of the unobtainable 8ft tubes have given up in the week since we've been here, so I'm down to a single 6ft tube.

I'm on the pro kitchen cabinet side, got mine from wickes, cheap as chips, good enough for keeping bottles and cans in. Tools are in a tool chest.

Give me steel any time in a garage and you don't have to pay that much.

For example £999 at the moment! Load it with heavy stuff for years with no worries and it looks the part,

http://www.garagepride.co.uk/newage-garage-cabinet...

Loads more good stuff on there too.

Been reading this thread on and off for a while and soon to start work on my own double garage. A question for those who have already converted/made theirs pretty... what kind of things would you do differently if you could start again?

Currently we have two large separate hormann electric doors, although only one now works. It's a large garage (5.7m x 5.7m) and we're looking to do the following:

- Plasterboard and plaster all 4 walls (maybe insulated plasterboard but it's already double skinned)
- Tidy up boarding of the tops of rafters to provide storage area
- install 2 X loft hatch to allow access to storage area
- Insulate between rafters and plasterboard and plaster ceiling
- Install 4 X led panels
- Install downlights in ceiling
- install 6 X double socket points across 3 walls
- Level floor and install porcelain floor tiles to all areas

The other big thing is working out what to do with the doors. They're quite wide already but i'll be using the garage mainly for detailing and light mechanical work on the Tuscan. From a practical aspect, a double roller door would be best but i'm not sure it'll do the aesthetics of the house any good. Maybe a wood finish would help?

Get a photo of the existing door set up and have it applied with a wrap onto the roller door as a sort of modern trompe l'oeil, I considered doing that with mine but decided I couldn't be bothered.

Rather than tiles would you be better getting an industrial floor put in? One of the liquid types will result in a nice smooth finish that lets everything roll nicely.

After painting garage floors and having it repeatedly lift over the years I'd never do it again despite following all the recommended guidelines etc. Do the job properly first time by tiling the floor, durable, easy to clean, looks smarter and will last for years, also no issues with rolling anything across it either.

Agreed on the flooring, used to paint and it just wasn't durable, current set up has plastic floor tiles from plas floor, very durable easy to keep clean, and adds some insulation and warmth.
