Yup....ad agency promo from the 80's about a car that takes its styling from the 80's........ If Porsche were confident in the car's looks, then we'd have seen undisguised shots by now.

I know that any cars i draw still have guns on them but i can work a photocopier Problem is Porsche do use a lot of third party design studios/houses in and around Stuttgart.... some of which come up with great new ideas/designs...which for some reason fail to get higher level 'approval' prior to adoption into production etc.... I do think its wearing a bit thin where Porsche wanna maintain some kinda visual 'link' between the models... Its about time Porsche had the balls and designed something completely different, because it just getting predictable. Every single product they produce is based around the Porsche design and look, make it bigger but make it look like a Porsche, make in longer but make it look like a 911 Porsche. Sad really. At least Lotus have design ideas and confidence to put there ideas into production.

Never understood the mainly German obsession with styling cars to all look the bloody same.
I know, lets have the same front-end, middle and back on our cars - regardless if they are mid-engined, rear-engined, front-engined or even 4 wheel drive.....
For gods sake, the most appropriate styling and shape for the purpose at hand. I know the Cayenne sells regardless of what it looks like, but as a legacy for the Porsche name, its not really helping anyone. Now we get a saloon car that looks like crap too...
Great thanks for that.

Great thanks for that. Perhaps this will lead to a general fallout with the brand, leaving me to pick up a 911 for pennies. Happy Days!

Loach said: Another undoubtedly worthy but conservative and slightly dull car from Porsche. Whoop-de-effing do. Wiedeking's business plan must be the most boring document in the history of documents, and his policy regarding model planning is the most reactionary thing I've ever seen. He waits for a niche to be opened and proved, then wanders in with his team of badge engineers. Nice.
ca. 1996
"Mensch. Der 911 costs vaay too much fur der building. Make it cheaper. Hey! Use der vront bit vrom dat new Boxster ssing."
12 months later
"Zat vent vell. I voss sure zer vud be complainink, but nobody noticed zat der qvality is a bit scheisse now. Krepp, zo, ve need more monneys. Ver iss everyvun else making der monneys? 4x4s you say? Rrright. Let's make vun of dose ssings. Vell I don't know.... stick der badge on der VW oder ssumsink. Den ve mek good monneys."
At a later meeting.
"Dey did preddy good vid der Bentley, no? Und der Qvaddroporte ssing seems to be mekking der good munneys. Imachin if dey had put der Porsche bedge on der Phaeton und made id a bid shportier how much monneys ve vud hef made on ssat ssing. Qvick. Led's not mek der same misdake tvice. Go buy VW Horst, und brring me a sendvich. Tell ze guys downstairs to set der photocopiers on 30% beegger. Ve're designing der new Porsche zaloon later.""
Some time after that at a 997 planning meet.
"I don't know. Mek it like ze old vun. Everyvun luurves der old vun. I emm alvays hearring zese vine-inks about "ooohh.. ve luurved der older 911s... zey ver sso kuuurvey und alles. So... mek id kuurvey oder ssumsink like dat."
At the same meeting...
"How is BMW und Audi und der rest of zem going vid deese liddle 4x4s? Dey mekking good monneys? OK. Let's be mekking some of dose monneys und mek a liddle 4x4 as vell." Bloody genius, laughing out loud on my own, I suspect to the passing public I look mad!

I think in something like a 4X4 big and ugly works i.e Cayenne. But I feel they've missed the mark considerably with the Panamera, looks dated already to me, like some god awful shooting brake Aston or Ferrari!

When are Porsche going to design something unique?
I am becoming increasingly bored of the Porsche brand with every "new" car.

central said: I really hope it looks as interesting as that once the wraps are off. I expect to be disappointed but maybe..... As others have said, two easiest jobs in the world; Designer for Porsche and designer for Aston Martin. Third easiest job is designer for BMW - let's face it, they could release a car uglier than the Ssangyong Rodius and it would still be a sales success
