looks like a interesting buy for 250 and it has MOT -whats to complain about. black big bumper an 16v, it doesnt get much better if you want a golf. the 16v engine will last a long time - i have had ones on 199k an 246k still going strong. the valve stem seals do create excess smoke/oil burning but can be replaced without removing the head although a precautionary HG + cam belt for <£100 is well worth it.

as for fuel issue it is more likely the lift pump in the tank has died hence why even though the guage thinks there could be fuel in it the fuel isnt able to get to the main pump. £15quid at GSF for new one.

I reckon with a decent dose of cleaning a good service and if it has any service history and receipts with it then doubling the money will be easy and trippling as silly as it sounds is not a joke!

A true masterclass in how not to buy a car! But then at the price of 2 new tyres its definitely worth a punt and I've bought cars before in a similar manner which have turned out to be great buys!

You know the old saying 'if its too good to be true it probably is', this looks like the exception!

What a bargin if it is not a Dud !

Had a few Mk1's & 2's in my time....that's an under statement !

16v mk2 - amazing - you had to really drive it.
8v mk2 - amazingly-relaxing.....just the lazy driver in me.

Both excellent motors...they don't make-um like they used to.

PS. Mk1 sportline cabrio - showcar / mk2 8v big bumper weekend toy.

I never really liked the styling of the mk2 Golfs both inside and out. Even when new I thought they looked dated and really out of proportion. The big bumpers did it no favours, it just looked like a complete mis-match. The inside was equally as awful, dash and interior lacked design flair!

One of these sold near me for a grand about a week ago - exactly the same except red in colour.

I wish I saw the SOW for £250 as I'd have bought it and sold it up here for a very tidy profit - Harrogate - where people buy old cars for silly money...
