How many miles?!

Back to black on the bumpers, good clean, take off the stupid exhaust and provided mileage is under 120k, I'd stick it up for £1,200 - Black, big bumper, 3 door, Mk2, it's all good!
136k miles, it ticks all the boxes for someone looking for a mk2 as the base for a project (well it does for me anyway!) but I think the miles and the very tired looking interior would push it sub £1000, judging by the other MK2's I've just had a look at in the classifieds

Bit of a find - You can't really buy any cars now for under £300 let alone a Golf GTI 16v, who cares if its dodgy? its only 250rubs at the end of the day

Last (recorded) keeper change was in 2002 and the guy before that had it 14 months which sounds good. However I'd be very surprised if someone who had owned their car for the last 6 years would sell it in that manner. Did you ever see the address where the car was registered?

My money's on it being bought by someone, driven with no licence/insurance without registering it in their ownership and then selling it on. It comes up as unininsured on the MID too which backs up that story.

Not sure about his summary of the 8v being rubbish. The 8v engine is torquier and more tractable for most driving than the 16v

Thats been stolen. I predict a £250 loss.
As I say in the story the car has had an HPI check and it hasn't been crashed or stolen smile
250 quid???!! Surley thats to good to be true!! There has to be a catch somewhere!!!

I was watching a program on the box the other day about this sort of stuff and there was a woman who'd bought her son a new shape fiesta for his first car.... she done a HPI check and it was all clear.... she then sent to documents off to the DVLA only to be told the documents were forged. The DVLA then sent round one of thier bods who confirmed the car was actually a stolen car!! I hoped you checked all the numbers matched before you bought it!!!

whistle

..... saying that though, I've just had a thought! Why woulod anyone go to the hassle of faking a cars identity for £250???!! If that car is all above board you have got yourself an absolute bargain!! Give it a wash and you'll double your money easy!!

Not true, the 16v has more torque at every point in the rev range. Its just the greater shove up top that makes it feel less torqey low down.

My old 8v Golf felt really S L O W

Mrk2 Astra GTE's used to obliterate it. The 16v's were a different planet altogether.

Torque, yes, but if I wanted torque for day to day, street to street, I'd have bought something else.

I wanted a fast car.

I didn't get it paperbag

Was glad to sell it.

There has to be more to it at that price..

Either its genuine, and every consumable on it is due for replacement, or its been stacked + not recorded.

So which is it?

G (1990) was the changeover year. This car has the larger side trim, early style arches, and a few other bits. Easiest way to tell is the electrics. If the hazards are on the dash its old style, if they are on the column, it's later (CE2) style. Later electrics mean easier for engine swaps!

Also, at NO POINT in the rev range does the 8v have more torque than the 16v, its a myth, search Club GTI where plenty of people put it to the test on various rolling roads.
