It's all utterly pointless - arguing over second place! The ZR1 Corvette blew them both away!
It's not pointless if you want a RHD car, or you just plain don't like the Corvette. The interesting thing about this for me is that Nissan are now seen as a competitor to Porsche. I don't think this has happened before has it? I know the Skylines are very fast, but were they ever considered to be an alternative to a 911?

I dont think they are. Yes you might get a few people who will buy a GTR instead of a 911 but I havent heard of any.Performance is only one aspect of a cars appeal. The GTR is a massive car compared to a 911 and a lot of people wont like that. Likewise some people wont want a flappy paddle gearbox.
Also a lot of people buy Porsches as its a well known brand with a motorsport herritage second to none.
And yes I'm sure a lot of people would rather put down a set of Porsche car keys on the pub table than ones with a Nissan badge on the fob. That might be vain but it happens with all cars. How many people would rather buy a VW than a cheaper Skoda which is just as good in every respect?

Still dont think that would make an aweful lot of difference even if the GTR wins. Its a bit like a Noble GT03R and a Ferrari 360. In performance terms the Noble did everything the Ferrari could but for half the price. Stil ldidnt sell that many of them though.
I currently own a 997 GT3 (the third 911 I have owned), and I have ordered and will be buying a GT-R.
I love the Porsche, and all that it embodies, heritage, pedigree and robustness, but not to the exclusion of all others. The GT-R is a fantastic machine and I believe whilst it may not be a Porsche, it is worthy of praise and consideration.
Vive la difference!

How pathetic of Porsche..read this yesterday on Motor Authotrity and underneath was an article about the V spec with 100bhp more an even faster drive train and about 200kg removed...and couldn't help thinking how Porsche should of kept their mouths shut..and it will still be cheaper than a 911 turbo....that will destory the 911t
The Nissan GT-R does not compete with Porsche, most of their cars are double to three times the price of the Nissan in the major markets Japan and the USA . The fact that that Nissan have a accomplished what they have at such a comparatively low price point for what is in reality a should be commended.
I think that Porsche should be embarrassest. The GT-R has obviously got them rattled, they have been found out the GT-R is a genuine supercar. Porsche's cars have previously been the darling of magazine testers the world over and they have probably moved a lot of metal because of it. They have been getting a bloody nose for the first time since forever with the Nissan winning lots of head to heads and group tests, which is previously unheard of.
Their cars are too expensive not just in pure monetary terms but in out right value for money. I think in countries that do not do badge snobbery Porsche will suffer in a similar way that Lexus hurt Mercedes and BMW in USA.

The great thing about this situation is that by arguing over the validity of an otherwise irrelevent lap time, Porsche have acknowledged that the GTR is a direct rival.
Porsche could have ignored the times and by marketing and publicity made sure that teh 911 is 'perceived' to be a completely different type of car - more upmarket, luxurious, better for distance driving or breeding ground for competition. Instead they've acknowledged that the GTR is competing in the same market - a big faux par.
Well done Nissan. Regardless of whether the GTR is better than the 911 or not, they've got the general public thinking it could be. The Audi R8 on the other hand, whilst quite possibly a better car than the 911 will never convince enough of the public of that (arguable) fact to sell in significant numbers.

Some of them were swapping but quite a few were adding to their fleet.
My logic was that originally I was going to upgrade to a 997 rs, and stunning that they are, it just wasnt worth another 55k over my Mk1.
So instead, the gtr which is going to be more of an everyday car seemed like a great option. Its replacing my scooby,...so badges dont bother me
