RE: PH Heroes: Audi RS2
Discussion
I had a silver RS2, LHD imported from germany. A truly amazing car, comfortable, simple to drive, beautifully built amazingly fast. Why did I sell it, well a 993 came my waand I wanted similar build quality but a different driving experience.
What got me the most was how the RS2 stopped, the Porsche brakes were phenominal and the acr was so rare.
A joyriders delight but one I ticked off of my 'must own' cars.

£21K buy it now price?? (ie the reserve) - that seems a bit steep if you ask me!Great, great car (esp in Noggy Blue) but...not as good as the 20v UR quattro...test drove an RS2 in 1993 and was amazed at turbo lag compared to my URQ (pick up at 3500 asit says in the article compared to 2200 in the URQ) and the 6-speed gearbox had you changing more frequently to max the torque compared to the URQ 5-speed box. Stunning car though - and it causes a stir wherever it goes. Neo have just released 1/43 scale models of it in Red, Blue, Black and Silver which are pretty good. See one most times in Farnham SWT car park. On a seperate subject - RS5 due in 1Q2010 will be true successor to URQ after all these years...

Later, a mate of mine bought a silver one and took me along the Nordschleife for a ~9 min flat lap. I must admit I occupied the toilet at the Grüne Hölle for about half an hour, afterwards...

Bigger turbo = more lagAlso, what you are talking about is boost threshold not lag. Lag is when you put your foot down and have to wait a second before the turbo spools up. Whereas under 3500rpm it is below the threshold and wont start boosting till after.

Been in the feature car here (lovely shots on Epsom Downs, by the way!!)
4-up at Bruntingthorpe doing silly speeds, with the man himself at the helm.
Wonderful, lovely car. They simply do not make them like this any more.
Sandown Park Squire, but Amen to the sentiments. 4-up at Bruntingthorpe doing silly speeds, with the man himself at the helm.

Sounded so nice I googled it to find out what it was!!
They remap to 380bhp on the stock motor.....which is good for around 450bhp before you need to look into strengthening the internals.
Incidentally, the production line that Porsche created to hand-build the Merc 500E's between '92 & '95 was also used to build the RS2 - so both Porsche and Audi benefitted from the arrangement.

I want one. It is simple as that.
Quality engineering, pace, practicality plus a decent, understated image. For some reason, these don't seem as overtly aggressive to me as the RS4/RS6... More of a car for those who know...
Many decent ones left? Or have they all been modded/pranged?
There's a few standard ones about, three of us were at the Goodwood Breakfast Club earlier in the year.Quality engineering, pace, practicality plus a decent, understated image. For some reason, these don't seem as overtly aggressive to me as the RS4/RS6... More of a car for those who know...

As far as we can find out there 129 of the original 182 UK spec RHD cars still alive and well. How many of these are unadulterated is anyone's guess.
The guy who has just bought M120MJB is over the moon with it.

It was the old 959 production line IIRC.Incidentally, the production line that Porsche created to hand-build the Merc 500E's between '92 & '95 was also used to build the RS2 - so both Porsche and Audi benefitted from the arrangement.
It's funny how cars built by Porsche for other people are somehow cooler than some of Porsche's own cars, if you know what I mean.
I wonder if Porsche will adopt this plan again soon now that we are in another economic downturn? Most mainstream manufacturers now have their own high performance divisions though.
A Porsche-Jaguar saloon could be interesting.

Love it
Did Audi not do an RS2 Coupe though? Don't really know much about them
They did an S2 Coupe that was no slouch, but there was no Porsche partnership or bits for it. Looked decent enough but I'd much rather have the RS2.Did Audi not do an RS2 Coupe though? Don't really know much about them
They did indeed make an RS2 coupe, but it never made it to the UK as far as I know.
