In the same position. Purchased vehicle Saturday, valid MOT, valid insurance but only have
new keepers green slip. Vehicle was not taxed. Travelled 100 miles to purchase the vehicle but as not 100% certain was going to buy vehicle was not pre-taxed. Drove the car home un-taxed
therefore illegal. So rule is don't buy an untaxed car any distance from home at the weekend as you can't possibly get all the necessary paperwork together until a Monday. I now have a nice new car that (legally) I can't use for two or three days until I get the full reg doc.
P'd off!

Wouldnt think that if you taxed it online it would matter too much if your tax disk is displayed or not? Just print off the receipt for the online tax and keep it on the dashboard?

If you get pulled by police they can check that out or just to an askmid check which should be up to date?

Wont all spec cameras take the detail of the reg? So then if its taxed online it would show that its taxed, insured and mot'd?

Failure to display is an offence, another problem would be the tax disc would be sent to the registered keeper, ie whoever you bought the car from. I had the same problem buying a few years ago, it's a bit of a gap in the system. I didn't live too far away so took a risk, bit of a pain though.

simply do a search prior to buying the car, for Post Offices en route that are open on a Sunday . . . there aren't many, but they are out there smile

If you tax a car you have only just bought online the tax will be sent to the previous owner, not the new one.

The only way to tax a recently purchased car is at a post office.
