I can't believe it, nobody has mentioned the Lotus Carlton yet!

Sounded like a winner to me. Take a normal rep saloon and fit it with an engine that turns your eyeballs to mush, and handling to twist your spine into a rollercoaster track.

The 205 GTi Cheetah...

The original 1.9 GTi

I actually owned one too!
That's a great article - I never knew about them.
It was a brilliant little car too. I'd go so far as to say the most fun per £ car I have ever owned.

I'd have another in a heatbeat.

In fact, Classifieds, here I come! biggrin

Lancia Beta Fissore

...Is that... :squints: ...Rust I can see...
Didn't Fissore make that absolute beast of an off roader called a Magnum? that looked like a Metro cab and was based on an Iveco Daily?

There was the Pug 205 "Roland Garros" whoever he was.

I recall various special editions of the MX5 mk 1 but in particular a vile green and orange diamond-festooned edition attributed to Benetton.

US manufacturers have their own tie-ups:

Ford - Shelby, Saleen, Steeda, Roush and of course, Hollywood-wise Bullitt and Kitt.
GM - SLP and there was a C6 "Ron Fellows" edition in white (whoever he was...),

Mini - Cooper

Ford UK - Broadspeed, Uren, Crayford in the 70's
Vauxhall - Blydenstein, DTV

Lotus - John Player Special colours used widely in the 70's, the red/white Elise.

Rover - BRM (-ish)

A few dealers sprayed the orange 'intake' silver to match the rest of the silver trim on the sides to sell them a bit quicker

No it didn't!

It had 300lbft of Torque.... wink

that the 300 part of the name. the 302R is 2wd and the 304R is 4wd.

Fast cars back in the day.
