Is a FIAT a supercar? What sort of crack are you smoking?

i am lucky enough to know someone who test drove a turbo...they said the pace of the thing was just ridiculously fast. they didn't buy it after all...one thing they said was the engine noise wasn't that great. they said it was a fantastic car; they got a db9 instead. probably for better waftability...
i would say it's a supercar...just. the figures are definitely there.

Yawn. They've been writing this same story since the 1970s - first the 3.0/3.3 Turbo vs Countach and Boxer/Testarossa, then the 993 vs Diablo/512TR, and so on.
Few of today's half-breed Audi-Lambos and VW testbed machines can get within a sniff of the pedigree of a Porsche Turbo. Yes, many say that the 996s/997s have lost something, and I really don't like the side air vents, but I still would feel the thrill going my spine getting into a 997 TT, sharper than just about any vehicle on the planet.

A tidy 997 turbo will turn heads on Park Lane just as much as any Lambo or Ferrari 430.
I reckon it's a super car, but as others have said, with cars like the Veyron, McMerc, Koenigsegg, Carrera GT and the Enzo about, the 911 Turbo does pale a little.
So for me: super car, yes. Hyper car, no.

It's not just speed, to be super a car needs the whole package, the 911 turbo is, essentialy, just a tuned 911. Actually not The engine in the turbo is a DE-tuned GT1 engine It is most definately a super car The torn in Maranello's side. Nevyn

Are the new Audi estates destined to be supercars? No. The Porsche is just a top of the range car. It just doesn't look like a super car, more like any other 911, which aren't exactly rare any more, it's not exotic, nor interesting enough. Excellent it may be, super? No. Take a drive of one and tell me they're similar to an Audi estate. Give Audi a few years.... Go to a supercar meet, there will be a 911 Turbo there. Read a supercar book, it will have a 911 Turbo in it. Watch a supercar DVD, it will feature a 911 Turbo. Although we are all entitled to our own opinion, the general consensus is that the 911 Turbo is in fact, a supercar.

For all the people who find it hard to call ANY 911 Turbo a supercar you have only got to look in the history books.. they have always been relentless competition for the likes of ferrari, lambo, etc no matter what they bring to the table. In my opinion its more of a supercar then many of the forementioned as it at least has its own chassis, drivetrain, engine where the likes of the audis, lambo's, ferrari etc etc etc lend much of their performance to shared/standardised parts.

one day ben will experience a 997 turbo and be blown away by the sheer mind bogglingness of them.
they are like a speed tardis, do 140 in one and it feels like 70 in any other car.
when that day comes he will understand.

I really want to like the top end 911s, but somehow I just can't get past the looks.

Can't help but laugh at all the "it's not a supercar" posts. What tosh.
Was a passenger in one once, laugh out loud acceleration. It felt like it was tearing my face off.

Supercar or not, I'll bet Bugatti can stitch a straight line on a leather seat and not a wonky one like in the pic!:

911 turbo is the bench mark for all super cars always has been. At one time the 911 turbo was the fastest accelerating car in the world. Oh and its about half the price, can be used every day without breaking down. end of story.
