That's just a car with a different manufacturer's wheels on, not really misbadging.

They ARE Lamborghini wheels (although possibly replicas).

Seen some chavs driving around in a 1999 316 last week with the following badges on the back, some of which were not even straight. M Badge on left then '316i SE'. SE was wonky and looked brand new. Little pee shooter exhaust. The M Badge thing is bloody annoying.

It certainly is. This horrifically sad national trend has put me off from buying a real M model in the past. Looks like nothing has changed with regard to the baggage the BMW brand comes with.

That's enough to put you off buying a car that you liked?!

I knew someone would throw that at me! No, it was one of these:

The diesel ST's don't have any badges on them indicating that they are diesel. The petrol don't have any badges indicating petrol either.

It has not put me off wanting a real M car. I really want to get an M3/5 within the next few years when my current lease is up, hoping to set enough money away for one anyway. If I do end up getting one, I will take pure joy from sitting next to these fake M posers and letting them see a real M car. Near every single poverty spec BMW is sporting a damn M badge. Just because they upgraded to a firmer suspension package does not make a 318D a sports car. Sick of it. My Wife now points out all the crap.

I know you shouldn't let certain people put you off a car. However I see so many BMWs with fake badges on all the time. It is beyond sad. BMWs are affected far more than any other brand I have ever seen. There is clearly a certain type of desperate person who feels the need to align themselves to the brand. I am not sure I can bring myself to join them. Despite the fact many of their older cars are rather cool. Hopefully these pathetic losers will attach themselves to something else at some point.

Mind you, that said I look at an E34 M5 and go weak.

Damn the shallow ladder climbing scum bags.

Really? You are seriously saying that you have been put off buying a particular car because some other people you don't know stuck a badge on their own car - difficult to decide which is the sadder behaviour.
