The bloke who wanted to re-direct his exhaust into his inlet got me
actually, most modern cars cars do this to some extent - it's called Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). it's used to reduce unburnt fuel and knocking when running leaner mixtures, or something like that.fido said:

Has got to be a troll, no one is THAT stupid
I used to rent a room to a nurse who 'topped up her oil' one night. Next day she had to call my mechanic friend out, because the engine wouldn't start, wouldn't even turn over. She'd topped it up okay, used the correct oil, but done the job just like she had the radiator: right to the bloody top!
I do vaguely recall her telling me it had needed quite a lot of oil to get it to level.......

girl I went to school with did the same with either an Austin 1100 or Herald.
also a workmate around 30 y-o came asking how to top up the oil on his Pug 405 ---down the dipstick hole......

I was just amazed he forgot to add the fairy liquid to do a proper job.
Like one story I read in some old motor mag --some coumn by a mechanic version of agony aunt -apparently bloke came into his garage with brake problems - tale was that the brake fluid was low ,and as he hadn't got any ,since Fairy liquid was green ,he thought that would do .190E Matt said:

Mustang Cobra
It's a pi55 take.
Although I did encounter someone who did something almost as silly, no perm damage though.
A late driver, passed test at twenty, first car. Came into work saying he had changed the oil but it would not start. It would turn over a little but very slowly.
A couple of guys went home with him after work.
I passed his house on the way home so I dropped by too.
As I approached I could hear laughter and see tears running down their faces.
He had overfilled it with oil, I mean really overfilled it, to the point he could almost get no more in.
Not as uncommon as you think, a friend of my brother has recently had to have his engine changed on his 911 (997) as he overfilled with oil and destroyed the engine Mustang Cobra
