Holy Smoke! that looks like a whole lot-a motor for not alot of cash.
That's the one which stood out for me, too.

And the Passat 1.9TDI SE at £4375 - admittedly provisional only, but I wonder what the purchase price was?

Passats seem to have lost a lot of value. Someone arround here is selling a TDI SE 55-reg for about £6000, which is significantly less than what you would pay for a same age and same engine Golf or even a Polo.

Excellent post as always V8Mate.

If it isnt too much trouble could you possibly give me some more info on the lexus/toyota auction in January? I'm probably looking in the wrong place but can't see much on the Manheim website.

Cheers
The auction is on Tuesday 13th January at 11am. (Cars will start being sold from 10am, but the Toyota/Lexus bit starts at 11am) I'd recommend getting there about 9 so that you can have a good long look round the vehicles. They do a cracking cooked brekkie too!
Err... Yes. I was frustrated as I did not get there early enough. Last time the sale started at 11:30am or at least thats what I remembered. I strolled in at 11:10 to find the car I wanted (an '07' CLS350CGI with 18k miles in Black/Black and Command) closing up. I had not seen the car yet and did not know the spec so was pushing my way through - took a quick peer in the window, Black leather - good, Command - check, £19,900 going once, going twice - gone. I did'nt even have time to think so I let it go and thought I best check out the rest of the cars. Plus on the way up I had a load of urgent issues pop up so had to concentrate on some customer calls for an hour.

Very disappointing trip - Cars were well priced, especially the CLS compared to the E-Class cars. But most of them did not have Command, and were quite tatty. There was a lovely CLS500, unfortunately in silver but it had an incredible spec with fully ventilated seats, half wood wheel, the lot.

I have a bunch of pics and prices from later in the day - but my conference call is just finishing - I'll upload them and add prices later tonight.

Thanks for stopping me on the Pink FourTwo - there were much better ones later... wink

2006 56 Mercedes Benz CLS 320 CDi Tip Auto. 42k. £16,950 SOLD

I did bid 16,900 on this car - but it was not really what I wanted (no Command, highish miles and mid colour matt wood - I wanted dark wood) - and turns out not to have been the CLS bargain of the auction. Was not bad condition though compared to some of the others.

Were there any of the new Brabus Fourtwo, and if so what price did they make?

Is it possible to get a list of all the cars that went through today, and the prices they made?

Thanks

Which auction did you do? The Mercedes one? were you the guy on the left or the right (if I were facing you)?

You guys certainly seemed to be in a hurry to get home today...

I think only 2 of the 8 CLS's had COMAND - bit of a killer for these, which is why they probably ended up there...

You can, but is it worth it? I've only ever had nightmares with COMAND.

Much happier with my Garmin and a fuel gauge smile

How many of that specific vehicle have Alfa sold?

How does that stack up as a percentage of all Alfas sold in the UK?

And how do Alfas appear as a percentage of all makes and models sold in the UK?

Because the auctions pretty accurately clear cars in proportion to those stats.

I don't think I will show my mate this. He bought a CLS 320 a year ago. God knows what its worth now. Just looked and they are £45k new! Ok, must be able to get a discount but stil . . . .
He looked at a Boxster at the same time but decided it was too sporty!

We had 210 cars to do and if we go slowly it tends to slow the sale up. Vendors tend to like large sales to go quickly to keep the interest up. Going quickly also keeps the sale going strongly and keeps prices up! I was the Christmas pudding !!

Yes, I see what you're saying.

Unfortunately, it's making any 159 look like a cast-iron investment, compared with almost everything else in the class.

Come on Steve. Even the most ardent Alfa fan knows that the words 'Alfa' and 'investment' will never appear together.

True, but in the current climate, where you've got 3 year old Passats going through auction for not a lot more than £4k, the 159 has to be about the slowest depreciating car in the mid-sized saloon class.

Mind you, the same happened with the 156 when it was a relatively new car - it is only the last couple of years that values have nose-dived.

Was kind of hoping 159s were dropping as quickly as Passats, as I'd be very tempted to risk an auction purchase for under £5k.
