Did a couple of hours in one of them out of Brighton marina a couple of years ago in weather that had all the other boats running back to the marina , the bruising has only just subsided and i swear i had at least one cracked rib !Great fun though but the best thing about having a boat is being able to tow at least 2 ringos prefably 4 , hours of endless amusement .

We can, but last week we had an Xmas break, and had a bit of fun this week. Sorry As a new comer to posting here, don't apologise - it's Christmas time.. it's only once a year! I personally would have gone with a link to this site which was featured on our local radio station! http://www.readersheds.co.uk/

Lesson learnt. Old boats = shy*te, better to spend a bit more on something newer. A great day on the water can turn really nasty in about 10 seconds.
Perhaps they should have optioned the oars Also love the fact that you get some muff in your bikini - so you have some rowers when it breaks down if course (I'm not dirty minded at all). Can we have a plane next week please? I'd love to see how much cessna you can get for a grand.

Been wanting a boat to tow a wakeboard for a while (other half says no at the moment though ) 60hp I don't think is enough though. Been recommended to go 100hp min - more power sounds good to me!!! Seen those mad boats with a tuned wankel in them? Mental!!!

Don't go 100 bhp mate they drink, you will get about4 mpg on a 16 ft boat. Unless you intend to mono ski then 100 bhp is minimum, unless you start off on two ski's then kick one off, 75 bhp is fine for wakeboarding providing you have the right pitch prop and you dont weigh over about fourteen stone. 60 bhp is a bit week for watersports!

At 4.0 litres, this new 24-valve engine offers the largest displacement of any V6 outboards ever made at an amazing 274kg. The low-end torque provides the ultimate in acceleration and power and the aggressively designed new lower unit reduces drag by an amazing 18 percent. I don't know much about boat engines, but 274 kg for a 4.0 liter V6 sounds incredibly heavy, far more so than a 6-7 liter Chevy LS engine. Miguel

15 years ago i mistakenly bought an old power boat, a 17ft Fonda with 140HP Suzuki two stroke motor. It had two modes, fearsomely fast and broken down. I once persuaded some good friends that we should take it out on Boxing Day. It refused to start and the whole caboodle including my nearly new Vauxhall Cavalier started to slip down the slippery slipway. My friends and myself ended up chest high in the icy water rescuing this wonderful craft. On the next Christmas Day my two brothers-in-law decided to take trip from Southampton to the Isle of Wight before Christmas dinner. That day it fired up in a haze of two stroke and powered across to Cowes. On the way we met the aforementioned very drunk upper class yachtsmen. Unfortunately full bore on a 140HP twostroke means fuel consumption akin to the Titanic so just as we entered Southampton Water on the return leg it ran out of fuel. I sold this wonderful craft for 30% of what i paid for it but it was one of the happiset days of my life.

I agree with the poster who mentioned ringos ( or inner tubes or whatever)
The most I have ever laughed in my life was piloting our Broom Taurus (140hp Mercruiser) with my friend at my mercy out back.
We were on Windemere and would head for the wake of ferrys at full tilt, then turn just before we got to them leaving said friend to negotiate them as best as he could.
My dad couldn't tell me what was happening due to laughing so much and when I turned around to have a look ( a no no for the driver) I saw my mate 3m up in the air upside down hanging on for dear life.
Speedboats are FUN (I could regale you with the things that happened to us for HOURS... easily)
As for the Dateline, it looks a bit underpowered, needs at least 85hp , nice boats though
