Op, you're overruled. That car is class, no questions about it.

Think of it in real terms:

Huge capacity
Noisy
Looks harder than Arnie

and REALLY stTY GAS MILEAGE

Almost as good as a 6000SUX.

Anyways, it's a good alternative to shove at the MX5 brigade =)

Calling this a zero is jumping on the journalist scapegoat bandwagon. Its a safe bet calling this car rubbish and a flop.......unless its on a car enthusiast website in which case it will be recognised for what it really is. This car is cooler than cool itself.
Exactly! And "powerboat engine" doesn't sound bad to me....

A zero based on the opinion of someone who saw one 22 odd years ago? Did this motoring website ever entertain the idea of driving one before judging?

The only Lambo Ive ever wanted to own.

Makes the H1 hummer look like a pansy.
Great vehicle. As far as I understand it, the masters at the US Military requested a 'people carrier' for desert warfare and the contract went out to tender.
The Italians (Lamborghini) came out with this and the Yanks produced the Humvee. The rest is history, as we know who got the contract.
Slippers had it spot on in his post.A tender was put out for new vehicle to replace 3 existing vehicles in the U.S forces inventory.Chrysler(XR311).Teledyne.And Lamborghini submitted three prototypes. The Lamborghini model was in its attempt a copy of the XR 311.And Lamborgini were threatened with legal action. The Lamborghini model was dropped early on during trials.Due to very poor handling and payload ability.

Another vote here for Hero status! Back some time in the mid eighties a rather young Interloper, found him self stuck in a dentist's waiting room.

Fortunately amongst the pile of women's weekly's was a copy of GQ. Wedged between a B&O hi fi write up and a fashionable trouser review was an article on the LM002. I've wanted one ever since, what an utterly mad thing, so very eighties, so very Lamborghini, it nearly took my mind off the impending fillings too!

So much for the PH Zeroes series. This is even worse than the piece on the Arna. I'll stick to my free newspapers thank you if I am looking for lightweight analysis and poorly-argued and unrepresentative opinion presented in the guise of incontrovertible fact.

It's one thing to try to provoke debate, another to simply destroy your own credibility, as almost every single response to this thread demonstrates.

Dear Mr Middlehurst and PH: Zeroes is not a bad idea, but please get your act together otherwise it will flame out before it even gets started.

My first radio controlled car was modelled on this. Tamiya Lamborghini Cheetah. (One of the best presents ever!)

I thought this was Pistonheads? How can this be zero? I'm disappointed!

This needs to be changed to hero.

As far as I can remember, the only time I saw one of these was at the launch of a rally in Paris, heading off to Peking back in the late 80's. Interesting selection of cars on this epic trip: Mother and daughter in Morgan, Morris Minor, Citoren 2CV, CIA in a couple of military Hummers, an Edwardian roadster etc . . . and of course an LM002.

Of all these cars, I heard that the LM002 didn't make it to Peking!

Somewhat put me off owning one, considering the cars that outlasted it.

Vote here: Should PH Zeroes: "Rambo Lambo" be changed to hero?

Should it be changed or not? I know most people will have voiced their opinions here, but it would be interresting to see the numbers. smile

Well, if the LM002 is a Zero, it would seem to indicate that Pistonheads has drooped down a gear - from Top to Fifth...

Does a vehicle need to be 'sensible' to be a Hero?

What?! if a pistonheader (is that a word?) were to have a 4x4 (clearly they wouldn't because a 4x4 that is non essential is the work of satan himself and anathema to anything pistonheads stands for.... I'm rambling) it would be this one for it's utter pointlessness. Isn't that the point of being a car nut? to love cars for no rational reason? We need to celebrate daft, over the top cars, especially as we may not be seeing any new ones for a while...

For anyone with any doubt, the LM is no zero, this is a PH Zero:
