RE: SOTW: Fiat X1/9
Discussion
I had a silver one about 4 years ago. I ran it from September to March, with no heater, one headlamp that had to be wound up, a stereo that sometimes created a short and killed the battery and various other niggles. Then it went for an MOT where they discovered the floor was rivetted in! I had to get rid, 'cos it would have cost too much to fix.
It was fantastic fun. Slow down the straights, but you didn't have to slow down for corners! And I didn't spin it, not even when I drove it in the snow...
Cheers

Fantastic car, second best car I've owned, despite the trouble.
Early ones are best,
That looks sensational! Early ones are best,
Memories!
I once had one that encountered a very large roundabout in a bank of fog on the way to Manchester early one Saturday morning (long story!) Yep the car hit the kerb straight on & took off like the Jukes of Hazard flying straight through a chevron sign & it landed axle deep in very soggy grass! Needless to say the car was a right off!

I still have one now, lovely little car, and so far has been pretty reliable, its a 1.5 with quite a few modifications, engine wise and a tweaked front end.
Very pretty, so much better with the metal bumpers. Wheels look too heavy and with an awkward offset though(someone had to say it).Edited by csljimmy on Saturday 17th January 13:12
@ csljimmy - that looks absolutely stunning!
Prompts a question though - if you had the choice would it be an X1/9 v TR7? I was plumping for the TR7 after seeing an absolute minter a while back - but this X1/9 thread has changed my mind. Actually, the whole bertone wedge thing is rocking my world at the moment :-)

Thanks mate, they are fun little cars, TVR would have much more power but the X19 is brilliant fun round the corners, This has racing cams and pipercross so it is more powerful than normal
If you take a look at this site for more info, he built the new front end on mine, and for people concerned about lack of power he has shoe horned an Alfa V6 in one lol

What TVR are you looking at?
James.

I love the X1/9 and always thought it was absolutely beautiful. I've read that it does drive and handle like a baby Ferrari of the era, though it is quite underpowered. I've also read that it is safe for a car of that size, as it was built very strong, and that is the reason why it's heavier than you'd expect a car that of that size from the early 70's to be. I doubt I'd be brave enough to ever buy one, as I'm not mechanically inclined, so I'd probably go for the MR2, but great shed!

I hope that rear wing is ABSOLUTELY neccessary, because it really spoils the lines of the car even with those wheelarches. http://www.p1x-2000.co.uk/
Here's my beast which is having a 1400 uno turbo engine fitted at present. When I bought her she was the exact same spec as this one for sale. Shocks, wheels and bodywork later.....
Hey James - Glad to see you still have her. That was a good night when we all met up in Worcester with them. We must meet up for a blast and a beer when the weather improves!!

like the non-locking fuel filler cap mounted right next to the louvred engine cover. As usual you get the fuel vacuum when refilling, you unscrew it, and flecks of fuel spit out of the filler neck and into the engine bay.
