No, it's a 'normal' AM V8. Stunning though!

Ouch! A costly proposition. But worth it I suspect - do you have the work done by AM themselves, a specialist or do it yourself?
Probably no worse than running any other supercar of the same era - countach, boxer, etc.

Nothing on it fazes me -- i know it nut and bolt inside out. But rikki cann looks after it (he is waving on the driver of his black v8 racer in the video)

I have used most of the top people for servicing -- stratton, factory, ian mason, rswilliams. it has been, shall we say, a very educational experience :-)

"I love those V8s. There is an issue of "Car" magazine from the early eighties with a cover picture of the Vantage, the F 512BB, the 930 Turbo and , I think, the Countach all travelling abreast, with the caption "Finding Out"

As I said in a previous comment, owning is not as much fun as dreaming!

Enjoy!

My favorite Aston cloud9

V8 engine up front, rear wheel drive, manual transmission and no poncy electronics.

All that wrapped in the shell of one of the best looking coupes ever. Just perfect.
Not bothered reading the rest of the thread, this sums up my feelings perfectly.

I'll have mine in that BRG thanks, with those BBS alloys!

did think about getting one of these beasties, went for the new model in the end, based on costs.
I did just the opposite : I went for the new model first , but sold it after a year because I thought it was not as special as an Aston Martin should be. Don't misunderstand me, it was a very nice sports car, but there was something missing.

I had the opportunity to buy a perfect 89 X-Pack from Richard Williams, with the full RSW conversion (7,0 Litre
engine, brake and suspension upgrades). This car is the best car I ever had. Every drive with this wonderful
machine is something special, even if it is only a couple of miles...
The noise, the atmosphere in the interior, the power and torque, the speed,... It is fantastic, and not
comparable with any sportscar I have driven before.

Enjoy some pics :

A beautiful brute of a car. I trust Oli wore a blazer for the test-drive, what what?

Personally though, I'd plump for what it eventually evolved into:

V8 Vantage 600 Le Mans. Nice.
Oh no. The Oscar India series was so much better.
Better handling.
Seated four.
Went where you wanted it to.
The Virage and Vantage were not the leap forward that Aston Martin hoped and as a piece of evolution, represent kissing a Prince and turning it into a frog.

Koen: bow

What a car: what power does the 7 litre pump out? Did it need work on the suspension ea to keep it on the road?

Where in Belgium are you hidding? Holland isn't that far . . .

This thread has caused an old, well suppressed memory to surface and I realise now that I need to confess and hope that I will not be ejected from PH, a fair punishment for my crime frankly...

My old man was a bit of a petrol head, he raced in rallies, dragged girlfriends off to race tracks and generally liked his hooning. Then he got married, had kids and had a load of Jags as he needed something practical but still good to drive and one sunny day he came home with a Silver Shadow that he acquired for silly money from a client who was going bust. Having finally achieved his dream of a Rolls there was only one thing he had always wanted more so a couple of years later, sometime in the early 80's I find myself in the back of an Aston which the old boy had set his heart on. I was not into cars as a kid so when I got in the back al I did was moan about the lack of space compared to his Rolls and then compounded it by being violently car sick in the back! To be fair, my mother would have skinned him but that never stopped him before but the combination of that and my utter hate for the car compared to the Rolls meant he never did buy his Aston.

I would like to say here and now that I accept that what I did was wrong, a crime against all that is good, pure and annoying to the eco-nuts and I throw myself on the mercy of PH for forgiveness.

Oh and the real killer is, I bloody love those cars now! Drove one of the very last ones (600BHP IIRC), the sensation of that thing was truly amazing, driven faster cars, better handling cars and even a few with more BHP but those things are in a league of their own.

Going now to think about what I have done!

You've admitted your error. Now embark upon a path of contemplation and reflection, and after 7 days, return to us and beg our forgiveness.

Now GTFO.

AMAZING, so glad that so many PHERs think the same about these!!!!!
If I were GIVEN a new style Aston of ANY kind I would sell it, I couldn`t care less how the old Vantage goes round corners or how good / bad the brakes are, those late 80s Vantages are fantastic!

all issues are easily fixable -- mine has the huge brembo race brake setup from RSwilliams. Transforms the braking, for example.

That`s just it though, they are so beautiful that I wouldn`t care if they had the brakes off a Woseley Hornet where as I have obsessed about improving the brakes on cars like EVOs!!!

I knew someone who put RUF wheels one a Vantage (ordered during a visit to their factory in the early 90s) and it really, honestly looked great!
