MechEng is awake, and confused.

Have explained my plan, of jacking up one wheel and cranking it. He is still confused.

[dramatic voice over] Will MechEng make it out the door? Will he lock himself out? Will the mercedes be moved in time for flight to oz? Will the mercedes be destroyed in the proceess? Who knows? Stay tuned.... [/dramatic voice over]

can't you get the aa or rac to pop over, get them to drag the thing out of the way? need to tell some porkies as to why you're doing a call out. expect the bloke who turns up will be ok with helping?
might be quicker than hoping for your mechanic to start functioning?

Not surprised. Why not just jack up the rear and push the car?

In a strange coincidence, I am in fact sitting next to Dave. Sadly he did not prove useful and suggested drinking the Kronenburg and then passing out. I have now sacked Dave as he was not helpful.

How is MechEng confused?! Tell him there is a large hammer under the stairs and since it is your Mercedes, I authorise him to use it.

It really is nail biting stuff….

Well he's awake, nearly got run over though. He has a jack, and the socket set. Should have an answer in less than 15mins.

It's tarmac, reynolds numeber of 1-1.5 maybe?

Well he's attempted my one wheel off the ground tactic and has failed. Another solution is now required. Prolly going to see if we can lift both wheels and move it.

Interesting... any MS Paint representations of the objects around the site too?

It is just a bigger version of getting a washing machine into a space in the kitchen... just need the car sliding equivalent of washing up liquid behind the wheels and slide!

If you have a halfords style jack then I think it would be very hard to pull the car along with both wheels in the air due to the small circumference of the jack wheels compared to the pressure created from the rear of the car. Your best bet is to jack up and get something under the wheels to help them slide.

ETA: Does this model of Mercedes still have the pneumatic locking system on the doors?

Wombat / Chris aka The fool who ran off the keys.

The MechEng - Once paid 70 euros in a dry country for a slab of pretend beer, and thought he got a good deal. Due to fly to Oz early evening.

Me, the poor sod who would like to move his car.

Jack it up and set it on stands or bricks to make it stable, get at the gearbox linkage and put it into neutral... or don't they have mechanical selectors?

Drop it down and push it away.

ETA - or, depending on room available...

Jack up and put trays which have the LM grease on the bottom under the braked wheels, then push it, or ram it with the blocked in car, or tow it slowly with the poor landrover.

Seems a bit like cheating, but I'll look for a price in a bit

Ironically I have two landrovers. One is 50 yards away on the road with a broken clutch, the other is in plymouth (with the spare mercedes key). Also andy has a land rover, but that is stuck behind the mercedes too.

Wait! You only got a 50 quid excess on the windscreen don't you? Smash the crap out of it, enter car and put in neutral.
