get someone to attach a rope to the car and tug it out the way. yes i know it wont be great for the tyres, but not the end of the world. its also only for a couple of yards at the most - no biggie.

a mate of mine had a similar age merc and couldn't get it out of P and therefore couldn't get it onto the low-loader. they guy turned up with skates, but had a stty little jack so couldn't actually lift the car onto the skates! in the end towed the car up the ramp with them locked in place.

no problems with the gearbox/drive train after

cheers

p.s. if it does fk your car up, im not to blame!!

the other option is rent a car from somewhere like enterprise.

i paid £11 a day - surely a bargain in this situation...plus they will come and pick you up :-)

Great thread. I'm on the edge of my seat.

I've taken the liberty of adding this to PH Legendary Threads early...

what does he need the car for? if it were me i'd give him the cash for a taxi ride or a hire car for the day, too much hassle all this trolley jack business!!!
Two engineers presented with the chance to use tools... it would be cheating to use a simple solution! smile

I have high hopes that the non engineer housemate, me, will solve the issue in an hour or so with the well applied use of stupidity and two jacks! Not just one, TWO I tell you!

Reason for not wanting hire car for weekend away.... its a high car, I want to play in my Porsche that I have owned for a month. I don't get much chance to drive it during the week.

Reason for not giving up..... its just to entertaining!!

just break in ffs... easily done on that aged car with a coat hanger or a small flat head screwdriver, any damage is a piece of piss to repair...

If the two-jack plan fails, may I suggest skip diving in the industrial estate to find some materials for the purpose replicating the McDonalds tray idea??

Any scaffolding near by?

Jack up the wheels one at a time, use boards resting on some tubes and then roll the whole lot out of the way. Hope you aren't on a hill.

How about this? Tie a rope to the from of the Merc, loop rope around convenient lamppost, across road, round another lamppost, hold end. Wait for passing car, when car is close, raise rope

Et voilà. The Merc will move.

Might need to be quick in letting go of the rope though... And explaining the issue to the passing car... Perhaps that'll be a use for the beer...

Whoaaaaaaaaa.

How about some "outside of the box" thinking.

What you're trying to do here is move the Merc. Why? You can't.

Instead, get the Porsche out by driving OVER the merc. Some neatly placed scaffold planks and some intricate driving by MechEng might result in some favourable car moving.

He might drive it off the roof of a Merc, too - it's a risk, I'll not deny - but one I'm willing to take.

Meant to add that injuries to the MechEng can be covered up and/or dulled with the beer. There's a 28 hour flight to Oz for him to recover on

Dismantle the Porsche, carry it piece by piece past the Merc.

In the words of the great Haynes manual, re-assembly is the reverse of....

Omertron - that is utterly brilliant thinking, and an excellent diagram!!

Injury to MechEng is allowed biggrin

Just waiting for my mate so I can be jacked up to survey the situation!!

Hat's off to you good sir! I am impressed!

I also think we might be able to get the MechEng to do this even if you do manage to move the merc using "conventional" (and I use that in the loosest sense) means.

MechEnd dismantling my Porsche!? Interesting idea. Not sure he could do it time to get to his plane.

You guys are looking at this to simple.

What you need to do is setup a ramp to get the porsche over the merc, however it maybe to much incline so you may need to remove the roof of said merc with an angle grinder.

Tim.

Right I think I've got it....

We might need to sacrifice MechEng, but the car will come out.
