I've parked my car in front of our drive, blocking my housemates car in. We're both at work and he'll be back and needing his car before I'm back. The keys for my car are in my pocket and I'm stuck in central london.

There's another guy at home who might be able to help move the car, just need to work out how.

It's a mercedes E220 (W124) auto estate, left in park (handbrake not on)

My plan is this:
Get the guy at home to jack the car up on one rear wheel with a trolley jack, with jack wheels facing the direction of the car.
Crank the wheel by hand in a clockwise direction using a socket on a wheel nut.
The differential should allow the remaining wheel on the ground to spin backwards.

Sound reasonable, or would this be the second idiotic thing I've done today? (it's not even 8am frown )

Thanks

Do you not have a spare key in the house somewhere?

I'd go for the bounce it out the way approach.

Spare key is about 230miles away, might well give the bounce logic a bash later once we're back.

Jack the rear end up, on large heavy duty trolley jack, and thus move.

Just a thought, but as its presumably got an open diff, would the transmission brake lock both wheels solid, or only one? If only one obviously you could just pick one wheel up and roll it out of the way....

Hmmm not got a large HD one to play with, just a small size one.

I think I should prolly list what we've got to play with.

One guy who is a Mechanical Engineer but knows nothing about cars (only passed his test last week)
A small trolley jack
A 500kg engine hoist
A large selection of spanners and sockets
About 4 crates of Kronenburg (useful for making MechEng work)
No keys - car is in Park, handbrake is off
WD40
LM grease
Contents of kitchen (girls might dissaprove of kitchen utensil use)

It might work, give it a whirl.

ETA - get a bike courier to take the key to Staines? Not sure what this would cost.

I am that house mate!! I am in Staines at work. Just to add to the idiocy of Chris/Wombat not only is my car required later this afternoon to take me to Bath it is also required to drop stated MechEng at heathrow for his flight to Oz!!!!

Chris/Wombat I am also now curious as to what the other bit of stupidity you have displayed is?!

I like the trays idea which could be achieved using the roast dinner cooking trays from the kitchen? or how about using the engine hoist to left the entire back of the car then give it a shove?!!

There is a broken landrover available with no proper clutch to speak of and a flat tyre. Not sure thats helpful though.

Another idea.... I have a roll under car trolley thing. Put something to spread the weight (wood panels in back garden) on it and thats one wheel at back able to roll.

Leaves the other wheel!!

Wombat/Chris - whats the idiot MechEng's phone number?!
