Hi, just renewed with Flux and have several issues. I've emailed directly about them but also thought they're worth knowing about on here.

1. Agreed quote to renew on the phone and payment was taken for £331. Paperwork comes through, £371 written on it. Now, to be clear I was absolutely emphatic they give me the final price on the phone with anything that had to be added and only authorised £331 to be taken. Watch this space.

2. Exclusion to use E117. It appears the car will only be insured at my home address overnight if it is in my garage. This is at best impractical and was not explained during the conversation that lead to renewal. If this is the a genuine limitation the policy is not fit for purpose in my case. There are several cars at my address, this one will not always be garaged overnight and at no point did i even imply it would.

3. E656, protection of no claims 4+ years. I have over fifteen years no claims and they are not referred to anywhere in the paperwork, this clause is the only thing i could find. Now, it may be that the clause itself is only appliccable for any policy that gets past four years ncb, but i've queried it anyway. Fortunately i have got pretty much every insurance certificate for the past fifteen years, somewhere! That said, the previous year is with flux anyway so they should have evidence of this already.

Overall, i have to say i only agreed to renew with flux to save any hassle, they were still a tenner more than admiral which i waived to avoid exposure to any cockups. Pretty unimpressed so far i have to say.

I'll update with the reply from the company if anyone wants to hear it.

ETA the policy, although payment has been taken, is not due to start until approximately the 25th. If the issues above aren't resolved i'll be cancelling it and won't expect to be charged. This is exactly the sort of thing the insurance ombudsman/trading standards are for.

Just had a renewal letter come through.

Is it normal to have a Policy issue fee, finance fee and excess protection fee?

These three fees come to £104.99

Hello

It looks like you have got a large excess of £1000 on the policy (some of that being voluntary) which has made a significant saving on your insurance. But what we have offered to you at renewal is the same as what you took out with us last year which is the excess protection. It is optional however but it costs £49.99 and makes your excess £0. The policy set up fee is £30 which always applied to new policies and renewals. The finance fee is £25 for setting up agreements etc which can be taken off if you decide to pay in full. If you get any quotes elsewhere with similar terms that are cheaper then please give us a call to see if the renewals team can do anything else. Your policy is set to be automatically renewed so please call us if you need to make any changes or don't want the policy etc.

Thanks
Ash

I just have to get this off my chest while I’m still boiling with fury at Adrian Flux insurance brokers. I’ll stick to the facts:

1) Took out three separate insurance policies at the same time through Adrian Flux insurance brokers, one per classic car that I own, paid in full up front.

2) Adrian Flux notify me later that I’m going to be charged an additional premium for non-disclosure of an accident. This was an accident my wife had on her insurance policy, nothing to do with me at all and she’s not even a named driver on my classic policies.

3) Adrian Flux agreed to waive the additional premium but then reinstate the claim for a different additional premium for non-disclosure of a different accident in 2008. Turns out the accident in question was disclosed to them but only recorded against two of the policies. Besides which this was as no-fault accident on my part, I got a full pay out from the other party insurance.

4) Adrian Flux agreed to waive the additional premium but then reinstate the claim for a different additional premium for non-disclosure of a different accident. Turns out the accident in question occurred in 2005, they only asked for accidents/claims within the last five years. Besides which this also was as no-fault accident on my part, I got a full pay out from the other party insurance.

5) Adrian Flux agreed to waive the additional premium but then ask for additional premium as I cannot provide documentary proof of the alarm on one of the cars as it was fitted before my ownership. Accepted reluctantly I had to pay this, was given 7 days to also provide a copy of my driving licence in a supplied envelope.

6) I used the business reply postage paid First Class envelope supplied by Adrian Flux to send in the copy of my driving licence then six days later receive a text to my mobile notifying me that my insurance is cancelled – on calling in I was informed that the business reply paid First Class envelope with their pre-printed address hadn’t been received - must have got “lost in the post”.

7) I have been told by Adrian Flux that they took it upon themselves to cancel the policy with the insurance company as they could find no record of receiving the copy of my licence, this action was not instigated by the insurance company. For this privilege I owe the insurance company a £20 administration fee, Adrian Flux a £25 administration fee plus £21.70 commission for their services.

Letters to Trading Standards and the FSA are being drawn up, copies will be supplied to Adrian Flux and the insurance company involved as the latter deserve to know the kind of service the broker they deal with is delivering.

Bit of background - I am a middle aged company director with completely clean driving licence and now I will have to declare in the future I’ve had insurance cancelled. I am taking legal advice. I’ll leave you to draw your own conclusions as to the competence of Adrian Flux insurance brokers.

Buyer beware.

This was also posted as a separate thread but was deleted, truth will out one way or another though.

If I'd made any of this up I'd be concerned. They only have to check their records...

In fairness, this thread is run in conjunction with flux, surely theyd want to know about this?

For balance, i posted some issues i'd had with them recently. They now appear to all have been put right (still need confirmation about the amount, but the policy specifics have been corrected).

Anyway, back to the other poster.

Rightly or wrongly, it's their perogative to cancel business. I even told them thst given the insurance was cancelled and couldn't be restarted if they charged me a pro-rata rate for the days I was insured then I'd live with it and go elsewhere, not happily but just leave it and move on. After everything, it's their insistance on charging me commission and administration that galls.

Hello Rob,
Sorry that you are having issues with your policies. It seems that various managers have been speaking to you about it and looking into your details so theres probably not a lot I can help with at the moment. If nothing is resolved and you still require help then feel free to PM me.
Thanks

I would like to say I'd renew but having just got off the phone to them I won't be bothering this year.

Last year I paid £680, this years renewal price £739, I have had no claims no points nothing has changed and it's gone up! Chris knott on the other hand will be getting my business 10 min phone call same details and they quoted £537.

I also enquired as to the amount of commission they would be earning out of this policy and was told £120 when I then asked why there was a £30 admin fee I was told "although we are earning £120 commission it's not really enough so we make it up through the admin fee"' although the person I spoke to who told me this was trying to be more helpful than the original person I spoke to, I told him I'd had a quote from confused.com for £538 the response I got was "well it's not as good a policy as ours, that's the best price we can do", please employ some staff with a slight interest in what they do.

Hello, sorry to hear you won't be insuring with Flux this year. As with all insurers our prices will fluctuate over the course of the year and after phoning around you may find us the cheapest next year. Rather than going through the call centre you can pm me some details when it is up for renewal and I can have a look at quotes for you.

Once again thought I'd give Flux a whirl come renewal time. Not at £3500 thanks! Didn't bother getting quotes for potential new cars.

Did you mention the 15% Pistonheads discount? laugh
It sounds like we had no schemes available with your details so the computer generated a rate. If you want to PM me some details I'll see if there was a reason we couldn't quote properly.
