hmm pretty crap service to be honest,im on the phone to your customer service as I write and so far its 45 minutes,customer service advisor has not a clue,service leaves a lot to be desired

Just spent 3 lots of 20 mins on hold to yourselves, finally had enough time 3rd time to wait for your pitifully slow call centre to answer to get a quote to add an additional bike(and the price was similar to compare sites when i tried with no bonus, whereas i have 20 odd years claim free on my multi bike policy with you)Was told this was due to the Holiday Monday(this was the TUESDAY...)
Then today yet another email asking for my limited mileage declaration? Though as I sent all 3 at once and you have the other 2? Though not according to the rather sniffy lady i eventually got through to today, i must not have sent it?.

Possibly the slowest company I have ever dealt with at answering the telephone, hope I never have to make a claim. rolleyes

Really sorry to hear this. It doesn't sound like you had a great experience, I must admit. Last Tuesday was one of the busiest days we're ever had. It is normally pretty busy after a long weekend, as we were closed on the Monday (hence the additional queries the following day), but our call quantities this time were unprecedented. I am in a bit of a quandary with yourselves and would like to get things cleared up.

When originally looking for insurance on a car I was about to purchase I originally did quotes using 9 years NCB which I thought I had. However, I realised the day before buying that I probably couldn't use this NCB as I am a named driver on another policy where I am not the policy holder. So I repeated my search and gathered some new prices.

For reference, with 9 years NCB quotes were circa £350. Without circa £500.

If you do the same searches today you will come out with similar numbers.

I decided to go with yourselves as it looked like good value. I remember speaking to the sales person about my NCB but to be honest I cannot remember what was said. I can only assume that I did explain my situation and whatever was decided I was asked to provide proof of my other policy.

I was a little late in doing this, but did so last week. I then received a letter asking for a further £377 from yourselves as my NCB proof was invalid.

Now something is amiss here because none of my policy documentation says anything about having a no claims discount applied. In fact the policy documents state that there is 0 no claims discount and it says this in two places. The total policy price of £520 is also consistent with 0 NCB as mentioned above (i.e. quotes done then and now with yourselves and others come out to be around this price based on 0 NCB).

By asking for an additional £377, that would make the original policy closer to £900 which of course is massively uncompetitive. Either way you cut it, there would be zero reason to insure through AF in the first instance.

For example if you are saying that £520 is the price based on 9 years NCB then that makes you £200 more expensive than most other big names and I would have discounted AF outright.

If you are saying that £900 is the price based on 0 years NCB then that makes you about £400 more expensive and hence I would have discounted AF. I went with yourselves because the price based on 0 NCB was £520 and therefore competitive value.

I think there has been a mix up somewhere. At the moment I am rather confused as to what has transpired. I would be grateful for any help. I did ring you guys this morning to sort it but I felt like they weren't understanding where I was coming from on this. They said they were going to review the call between myself and the sales person.

Having a bit of a mare getting my renewal sorted atm with flux. Renewal price was 300 (250 last year) so sent all details for a like for like plicy quote from somewhere else at 168 which i'm told could be matched, both on phone and in email. I then get my revised quote at 240.

Don't want to change companies but they aren't giving me much cause to stay atm. Very poor follow up.

Well I ended up cancelling

Apparently it was all computer says no.

They said they couldn't remove the additional payment or reduce it and it transpired that the payment had already been instructed to my bank (the letter they sent said I had 7 days before this would happen). I think that's rather naughty.

So in the end I have just cancelled it. Still got charged £70 cancellation but its better than £380 which isn't far short of what it would cost to insure with another company starting from scratch (0 NCB).

At least the woman on the phone got my logic in that my policy states I have no NCD applied to my policy price and therefore how could they take something away that wasn't there?

and that what AF are effectively saying is the best price they can do for a knackered old volvo doing 7500 a year with 250 excess is £520 with 9 years NCB or nearly £900 without, when all their other competitors want £300 and £500 respectively. Which seems rather out of kilter given AF are normally quite competitive value for money. I mean if that was the case, I wouldn't have even rang them up for insurance in the first place. Unless insurance has changed price by £300 in 2 months, which I am sure it hasn't.

They have apparently listened to my phone call when I took out the policy and that I did say I had 9 years NCB but thats all they said. I am not denying I said it but I am fairly sure the context in which I said it would have been that I didn't think it would be applicable. Happy to eat my words on that one, but that's all I got out of them. I know I was aware of the limitation of what NCB I did have so I have trouble understanding why I would have tried to claim it was all in order when taking out the policy.

I don't see how it trumps what's been sent in writing though. My policy clearly states I have 0 NCD. What they've apparently got written down on a system somewhere is irrelevant to me. In essence it feels like I got charged a 0 discount price for the insurance and then made it out to be a discounted price. Who knows. Maybe as a improvement, they can start detailing explicitly any discounts clearly.

So anyway some wires have gotten crossed somewhere I think and now the policy is finished (I hope, email correspondence with flux seems to be non-existent). Happy to pay £70 just so I don't have to keep ringing up to try sort things.

I fully expect what happens next with cancelling DD's to be a big fk up though so hopefully I can get them to accept a cheque and I will cancel my DD myself.

I have a grump against Adrian Flux.
I insured my 1963 VW Beetle with them back in December, gave them all the details regarding changes to specification etc and was given the ok for an agreed value to the car…..
Yesterday (some six months later) I received an email saying they required and additional £37 as the the colour of the car had been changed some time in the past and was not original. I had advised them of that in December but it has taken them in excess of six months to advise me of the increase in price. When I phoned them I was told my only option was to pay up or cancel the insurance. They did say they had quite a few cases like this.
Not my idea of good service and not sure they should be able to change a price after six months.
Anybody had similar experience??

Insurance increase because the car was once a different colour? Sounds like nonsense to me. I wouldnt be paying anything for that especially if I had previously told them of the change and they did nothing about it.

BTW I have re-insured with marks and spencers. £450 for a year with 0 discount. Half what Flux reckon they can do. Additionally I notice M&S dont even gouge you if you want to pay monthly, adding only £30 to the total if you go that route. With AF paying monthly added well over £100 to the total so poor value all-round.

Given all that has gone down I am now questioning my self and my sanity as to why I ever even picked up the phone to Flux in the first place. On all fronts they are worse than the competition. I feel like I was duped somehow.

I have watched this thread for some years after having some ridiculous quotes and conversations with this company (despite club and PH membership discount promises). I have seen many names associated with PH response's , Ash has now gone how long do we think Jordan will survive before he has had enough of damage limitation and fire fighting ?

I have to say that I tried them a couple of times and found them to be chippy and over priced. They came across as the RyanAir of car insurance.

As seems so often with larger firms who advertise heavily or run IAs with car clubs, their actual service and product simply bares little to no comparison to the image they are selling.

Not impressed with the quotes I've just had from Flux.

I've got one car insured with them (a Saab 2.8 Sportwagon with declared 10% remap) and am paying < £200 per annum. 40+ year old living in a good postcode area and low annual mileage with business use.
The Saab is now up for sale and I'm about to buy an MX-5. I'll need to have two cars insured for a little while until the Saab sells, so thought Flux was the sensible choice. They quoted me £300 if I use my NCB on the MX-5 or £450 if I use it on the Saab..
Apparently insurance on this is expensive because 'it's a performance car' (with about 1/2 the power of the Saab and 2 seconds slower to 60?).

Thought I'd try a moneysupermarket quote - with NCB - £180, without ... £260. So using a 'specialist' is nearly double the cost of most others?


Edited to add - Just called Flux to double check and those figures are correct. I supposedly get an 'ownership discount' because I've owned the Saab a few years. I was also advised in no uncertain terms that the figure quoted by MSM won't be what I would be paying at all - I'd be paying much more.. Quick call to Admiral confirmed the quote was exactly right and that, when I sell the Saab, I can then use the NCB on the MX-5 and get a partial refund.

Thanks, but I'll give it a miss.
wasn't impressed to discover that the quote mailed to me had the NCB applied even though it was already used on the existing policy with you.

So far every quote I've had without NCB has beaten your quote with NCB - I don't think you'll be able to drop it that much.
