Renewal came through last month, flux beat it by over £300! Wish I knew of the PH discount sooner to add to it haha
There is no PH discount with Flux. It's all BS. When I last used them, I had a flyer with my renewal that said "we'll beat any quote". So I went to the market and got a few quotes, some of which were lower than Flux. I called up and had a chat. Turns out they couldn't actually beat any quote. When I also mentioned I was a member of PH, "oh, that discount was already applied". rolleyes

They are the biggest bunch of BS-ers I've dealt with in the insurance game. The sooner they're off of PH, the better IMO.

Hi,

Sorry to hear you didn't have the best experience with us.

I can, however, assure you there is up to 15% discount for being a member of Pistonheads. In fact, we actually have a new 'Car club scheme' which PH members have access to, too.

Thanks

Jordan

So can you expain (a) why do you send out flyers that say "we'll beat any quote" when you can't, and (b) when I got my quote, I then disclosed for the first time that I was a PH member, the reply was "oh, that discount is already included"?

Sorry, but it's bollux.

Sure, no problem.

The beat any quote promotion has terms & conditions which unfortunately won't always be met - We certainly do try and beat all quotes where possible and all that meet the terms and conditions!

Secondly, the PH discount is our owners club/forum discount - When you purchase a policy we ask the question "Are you a member of any car owners clubs/forums" which PH will fall under as it's a motoring forum. If you answered 'Yes' to this question, we will apply the discount when calculating your quote. By all means if you can DM me your policy number I can trace the telephone call to clarify.

Kind regards

Jordan

OK a bit of a rant:

So I was getting some insurance quotes for my MR2 Turbo and Adrian Flux came up cheapest. All was well and good, guy I spoke to on the phone seemed knowledgeable and friendly. Quote was £365 for fully comp, all mods declared.... or so I thought.

They ask me to submit some documents, including a modified vehicle report form. After returning the form they tell me that half the mods I declared weren't specified when I originally rang them up, and that my premium would be increased by £75. Thing is, before I called any insurers I made a list of all the mods on the car and made sure to go through them one by one when I was getting quotes so I'm sure I mentioned everything to them.

Seems like they conveniently forgot to write down some mods on the phone and are now asking for more... rolleyes I asked for a recording of the call but that apparently costs £15. I also asked how much it would be to cancel the policy and they'd give me back less than £300. I thought there was a cooling off period? Not impressed.

Any chance of 85% discount so you are at least somewhere near competitive?

Exactly, I managed to insure my Maserati with a major insurer for less than half what Adrian Flux wanted and the excess was also less than half.

Hi Jordan,

I'm in the process of moving from Ireland to the Uk.

I'm importing my car, an '03 1.9 diesel Alfa 156.

I have been getting ridiculous online quotes thus far and was wondering what Flux can offer.

I am 33 and have been driving for 14 years, I currently have a clean licence with no claims bonus in Ireland of 6 years.

I am seeking comprehensive or third party f & t insurance, my car will be used for private use only and will be parked in an apartment block carpark off street in the London W3 area.
I will be the policy holder and there wont be any other drivers added.
My annual mileage would be between 5k and 8k approx.
The car is a standard RHD 4 door saloon and I wouldn't value it more than 1000-1500 gbp.

Could you please pm me if you need further info,I'd be very interested in hearing what you guys can offer.

Some of the quotes I've received thus far have been crazily high. My current insurance in Ireland costs less than £375 and I'm getting quotes back of £900+.

Regards

Phil

I'm more than happy to have another look at a quote/policy to see if any of our 40+ insurers can offer a more competitive premium - Send me a DM with your details & I'll see what I can do.

Hi Phil,

I'm sure we can help - You'll be needing Chassis number insurance in order to register the vehicle on UK plates I assume. I'm sure I can help - Can you send me a DM with some contact details so I can arrange to get in touch?

Thanks

So I gave up and paid the additional premium because it still worked out to be the cheapest quote.

The cynical side of me thinks this:
- During the initial quote I read off all the mods and they conveniently forget to note down the aftermarket ECU and consequent increase in bhp, so quote comes in cheap.
- When I call back to take out the policy they read back the list of mods and I nod along to everything, probably not paying attention and the ECU was not mentioned. My fault for not being more careful I know.
- I submit the modified vehicle form mentioning an ECU and hey presto the premium suddenly increases.
- Then I become buggered either way because it's ~£90 (25% of the premium) to cancel even within the 14 day cooling off period.

So basically lure you in with something that looks attractive so you don't go elsewhere, but then you're in for a little surprise and there's no way out. A bit like going into a Bangkok "massage" place.

But that's just me being cynical, I'm sure it was an honest mistake smile But then why not go through the modifications in exactly the same format as the modified vehicle form to avoid confusion?

Hi Shaoxter,

We've obviously discussed this via email and I can't publicly post full details due to data protection and the like.

However we follow a strict FCA regulated procedure of data capture and data checking on the go ahead procedure, the whole reason we do this is if for example in this case a list of modifications is disclosed and one gets missed/lost in translation - this is checked one final time before purchase of the policy.

Unfortunately there is nothing more that can be done on this case as we had confirmed every modification we had listed which was confirmed as correct.

I can only apologise you are unhappy with the service provided & if I could do any more to help, I absolutely would.

Kind regards

Jordan

Seriously, you think a large insurer has the inclination to go to all that effort for something that would get picked up easily by regulators if they were doing it many thousands of policyholders?
Agreed you are being too cynical, mistakes were made, they were costly that's the end of it.

I just called Adrian Flux (used call me function).

Just wanted to give some feedback. No hard feelings btw.

First of all, I think if there is no online quote system, the call taker (customer services) should make the caller feel a bit more welcomed. I felt like i was being questioned and not a warm conversation. I understand the system Adrian Flux Call takers are using would be similar to the one we use to enter details online and also the questions, but the call taker should at least make it a bit less reading straight off computer in a reading manner. Because of that, some of the questions were asked again that were answered before.

Also, the call taker asks if you are a member of any forum or a car club but don't ask which one. How does the 15% work then?

Also, first thing was asked when I called was (after if i would like a new quote and for which car) was what is the cheapest quote I have found and from who. It makes sense but when I said I would rather not, i was told it's needed to give me competitive quote. I understand that Adrian Flux would like to know to beat the quotation, but it shouldn't be needed at first instance. Maybe towards the end?

Also, the car details (Make model) was asked which is totally fine but at the end I was asked the Reg number of the car which found the details of my car and was read back to me. I think it would be good to ask this at the beginning (just to save both caller and call taker some time) and to have to accurate details from the DB.

As I said, no hard feelings and I am not venting. I just thought to leave a feedback as I have always been on forums during my driving life (CIVIV, MR2, FTO, BMW) and saw Adrian Flux around.

By the way the quotation i was given was £6xx more than known insurer from the market comparing sites :-) I am 32 with 9 years NCB. So I have not gone with Adrian Flux this time (my first time). I have another car and my NCB are on them so I would be cancelling the insurance on that first before insuring my new car and using my NCB on that.

Was it on a BMW? Flux quotes for BMWs are pretty ridiculous, but they're not the only ones. Some insurers don't even touch them.

Yup BMW 335i M Sport 2007

I have had my other E46 for the past 4 years and insuring it is/was never a problem nor the 335i as I have checked quotations around and it's 600+ cheaper than AF.
