Can somebody explain exactly what 'like for like' means on modifications? Despite asking numerous times and failing to get an answer it makes me slightly suspicious.

As standard my car is worth about £1k but it's had about £8k of engine work done - with other mechanical upgrades too. I'm trying to make sure if somebody runs into it and completely destroys it I don't end up getting just £1k back. I'm trying to insure the car to cover the true cost of replacement - the whole point of a fully comp policy.

the ECU was not mentioned.
Flux did the same with me. Mid policy I added an Omex ECU, Piper cams, Jenvey throttle bodies etc and I paid an extra £70 ish. Come renewal time non of these modifications were on the list of declared modifications! Slightly worrying.

Seems familiar to when my Focus RS was with Flux. I gave them, as requested, a printed copy of the exceptionally long modification list for all the performance / engine work done on my car. Next year at renewal when the paperwork came through I noticed the modifications were listed purely as "exhaust, filter & remap", ignoring everything that had actually been done to the car. It got brushed off as an "administrative error" yet couldn't provide me with a copy of the list of mods I gave them at policy inception the previous year, so i'm sure if I had an accident they'd have claimed I wasn't insured due to undeclared modifications.

Since then I've exclusively used Need 2 Insure & Greenlight as at least that way you deal with a decent specialist broker who DOES keep a proper list of all modifications and doesn't edit them down to suit their own paperwork / database, etc.

On fully comprehensive policies, are named drivers also comprehensively covered?

Thanks!
Hi,

That is correct. If you take a Comprehensive policy out, all named drivers on the policy are covered on a Comprehensive basis.

Thanks

Hi,

Like for like cover on modifications means that in the event of a claim, the modifications will be replaced on a like for like basis. As oppose to many insurers who don't offer this cover which would mean in the event of a claim the vehicle is repaired to a standard state. As an example you could have a set of £3000 wheels on your vehicle, if it left the factory on steel wheels & trims and you didn't have like for like cover and the wheels were damaged in an accident you would then have the vehicle repaired with standard steels and trims again. As we cover like for like, damaged wheels would be replaced with the after-market part again.

I hope this helps?

Thanks.

So if I have £8k worth of engine work done and the car is completely destroyed I could buy another car but the parts to build the engine would only be available brand new. So would any payout enable me to build another engine to the same spec?

How do your policies work on "Agreed Value"

As many companies are saying that cars are worth a lot less than they are, so as to pay that amount, or less in the event of a total loss in an accident or theft claim

For instance, if you tell me the car is worth £10,000 and I disagree, will you tell me that your computer system will not let you edit the value to its correct figure?

this is rather important in the Insurance industry, as it can be used against us consumers.

Hi,

If you take an Agreed Value policy out you will then request what value you would like to set. We have a team of in house valuation experts who will then assess this and the photographs provided, as well as researching to establish if the value is reasonable/accurate. This is obviously usually very straight forward and then then value is set. If there is any reason why the value is not agreed we will advise you on what we would offer the value at, or offer you the chance to provide an independent valuation to back the requested value up.

I hope this helps? Any further questions please do fire away!

I have be honest, I just went for a quote with Adrian Flux, and wanted a limited mileage policy, as well oddly enough, I don't actually do that many miles. To which they want to have a device in the car that records mileage, which for me is a big no no, I am sure they are honest when they say it only records the mileage and has nothing to do with driving styles or locations etc. But when told... "Its very easy all you have to do is plug it into the 12v socket and its on" I don't want cables all over the place just to be insured....

And Direct Line came back with a more competitive quote, which is annoying as I have used HIC before, and my last claim for when some old duffer drove into my T5 when it was parked outside was dealt with rapidly, even if the old duffers side are taking their sorry ass'd time so the claim isn't outstanding still (which doubles my initial quotations with most)

But the above is not something I am willing to concede at all...

My apologies, I somehow missed this post!

If the parts are modifications to the engine (As an example if you bolted a supercharger to it, or an uprated turbo, as well as it having a standalone ECU) this would then be covered on a like for like basis. If you want to DM me details of the engine work you are referring to then I can certainly check out how we would cover it.

Alternatively we do offer an Agreed Value benefit which is available to purchase along side a policy which means you can request a pre-set agreed value that is agreed for the duration of the policy.

Hi,

If you want to DM me your details I can certainly check out what we can do without the Smartbox.

Kind regards,

I've just been given a multiple vehicle quote, but been told it is not eligible for the 15% PH discount.

Without me searching through the whole thread, is there some small-print stating this exclusion? If so, my bad. If not - is this legit?

Looks like the search will have to continue.....

Jordan, will you look at this for me please? Policy reference is 373032503.

TIA

Not happy.

Just about to pay the premium, so confirming policy details on the phone, and I find out that the track day cover that I was assured IS included is in fact NOT included.

The premium is a little less than my renewal quote, but because I feel mucked around and disappointed I'll be sticking with my existing insurers. They don't offer track day cover either, but at least that fact was very clear from the start.

Sorry to hear this. All calls are recorded so I will have this listened to when I'm back in the office on Tuesday out of principal to find out what you were advised.

Kind regards,

Thank you Jordan. I'm certain that I made it clear that track day cover was needed - I certainly did so with every other company I contacted.

Hi,

Sorry to hear that.

Unfortunately as I'm sure you will appreciate we are not always able to compete, but we do try.

If you wanted to PM me your details I would be happy to take a look at this to see if there is anything else we can do to reduce costs.

Kind regards,
Jordan

Thanks for the offer, but why can't you (and many of your competitors) just offer a good deal in the first place?????????
Sainsbury/Tesco sell their products for a price, why can't you do the same??
I worked in the insurance industry for over 30 years and frankly find the current motor insurance market is abysmal/appalling/sh*te!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the 1980's when the Cornhill offered FREE NCD protection if you had over 6 years NCD you didn't get your premium loaded if you had a claim - that was the whole point of NCD protection FFS. Unlike now!!! And you could have up to 5 cars on 1 policy
Windscreen cover had NO EXCESS whether repaired or replaced (former unlikely then as they were mostly toughened rather than laminated back then)
Has the wheel been reinvented or are we just being taken to the cleaners...........???????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!
