Does any one know what sort of 4WD system Oli talked about in his article that Ford first tried? From a Kuga? JL
It was a Haldex system, the same as used in Volvos.

Spotted RS 3689 on Tuesday around 3:00PM, stuck in traffic around Mandelieu, before it hit the A8 and left everything for dead with a rasp and crackle from the exhaust, was it possibly you Ollie?

Edited to add, I also saw 3 white, 2 green and 2 blue RSs at the Ford centre in the same area, its not far from a large Renault dealer where I hoped to see some 26Rs, but no luck, the car park was filled with Twingos.

Double Edit: The route to Grasse, in fact any road in the area would be great for a commute if it weren't for the ridiculous speed bumps on wide roads, and suicidal lane discipline on narrow lanes, especially around Vence.

To all you slaters that over the past few months have ridiculed the rs with out even driving it,i am biased to the focus range but even so i have poured over road tests on tv and mags.....they all love it,rated top by most against its opposition, living in essex(ford land) i have seen a few test rs's,they sound awesome, popping and chaffing(wastegate chatter)....well done ford for bringing us a car that looks good, sounds good, can take your family as a normal focus but also doubles up as a very fast road car,to all us geniune petrolheads thats great....all for £25,000..sounds dear at first but there are not many NEW cars that can compete with it for its all round abiltys, top gear mag tested it with a "normal driver" against the stig in a ford gt,the rs easily kept up with the gt on all the twisty bits...with only long straights that the gt pulled away(500+bhp it should!!)
long live the rs....it might be the last for quite a while........
Even Chris Harris was not expecting much so one (including me) could have be forgiven to think it may have struggled. It SHOULD have struggled.
Based on his test, the car seems absolutely amazingly mind blowingly good for a road car and I would not mind a test too! Enough humble pie eaten for you wink?

I still can't see what not being a Ford fan has to do with not being a geniune petrolheads though ?

I've got a 1.8 TDCi, which is brilliant.
My mate has a white ST, which is brilliant - in the twisties, fabulous fun.
This looks like the Dog's Bo**ocks!
Well done Ford, plus great review. Having invested in a 5 series, will have to wait for a mate to buy one to see what it's like. Can't wait!

hehe The crawling Clio piloted by an OAP that you the innocent journalist passed just after a roundabout dived out of the way and straight into my lane! It looks and sounds fantastic, and honestly sticks out in traffic. It might lose the slight Q car factor held by the ST but from what I've read and seen, it has the ability to back up its beefy looks.

So... today I have mostly been with my dad and a couple of guys from FoMoCo. smile

To say it has been good would be an understatement.

I have driven a Focus RS. smile

In danger of sounding cliched and not being a journalist but I can only agree with the PH review and that of others journos.

The car is amazing. No torque steer whatsoever, no need for 4wd as it feels as sure footed as any 4wd I have ever driven.

Through the gears the accelaration is something else. 3rd gear just seems to go on and on and the car just leaps up to 140kph (in 3rd) in what seems like an instant.

The noise is addictive to say the least! On the throttle the induction noise is glorious and on the over run it's like being on a mountain stage in the IoM Rally.
I kept looking through the mirror expecting to see flames shooting from the exhaust.

Didn't notice any issue with the gearbox as Ollie reports but I realise that is down to personal choice. It feels close, quick and very decisive.

Don't know what else to say? The seats as always with hot Fords are amongst the best you can get. You feel even if the car was upside down in a ditch you could release the seat belt and the bolsters would keep you firmly pinned in place.

I've driven some fast cars, I've driven the majority of the RS Fords but this is something else.
The best comparision I can think of is to a 385bhp Escort Cosworth.
The Focus feels like it has as much power and the grip/handling is every bit as good.

I can't wait for mine to come.

Happy is not the word and now enjoying wine with the old man before coming home tomorrow.

If you saw the 4WD mule accelerate out of Werseifen on opposite lock, you might feel differently.

But I didn't, so I don't. The car is more than good enough as it is and it would take someone with special needs driving talent to upset it.

Being in my mid 40's I was slightly embarrassed going in to my local ford garage and ordering a blue one off a young spotty salesman, and not looking forward really to being called a chav; my wife is distressed at the thought of a ford on the drive, but having read this forum I'm starting to look forward to the new arrival, even if Ford can't tell me when it's going to land. (Sometime in June I've been assured.)

You have nothing to worry about. At least you didn't go for the green one hehe

A car can not make someone a chav. A car cannot change anyones social status of anyone.
Could a chav go and buy a Bentley or Rolls Royce, and then become upper class? No.
My dad is 54 years old, and he has an essex boy white one on order.

Regardless of what anyone says, this is going to be a great driving machine, and 90% of people who have ordered this car have done so because they want to take advantage of such a great car and enjoy driving it. Its not the sort of car someone is going to by just to pose in.
I think thats why its going to be a big success even though the styling is a bit questionable from some angles, its function is far more important than its aesthetics.

Or a cheap touring car! No doubt it's got clever electronics to put down the power as best as is possible for FWD, but i'd still prefer the Impreza (at least in its last incarnation .. because the current one isn't such a driving tool).

A chav with a rolls is still a chav, just a lucky one, I thought about an STI but I had an imprezza a few years ago and for me the imprezza image is hovering around, if not below the RS image (in my own humble opinion - Big exhausts, racing around supermarket car parks because their mates can't get in to pubs and generally upsetting the locals). The thing that swung it for me was that it looks alomst like a focus yet has 300 brake, goes like the proverbial and should cheer me up driving around the country lanes.

Sorry Blukoo just noticed on your profile you've got an imprezza, surely you prefer the other cars in your stable?
