Mondeo back, Lexus front, not a happy combo. However, for the sake of the 503bhp and interior, I would actually consider buying one but would probably plump for the XKR.

And the red is truly ruly awful. Given it has controversial looks, what possessed them to release a red one to the Press?

And your point is? Seriously, I really don't understand. It's as if you've shown me two piccies of an Aston and a Mazda - they are nothing like each other. The Mondeo is so much more stumpy at the rear, whereas the Jag has a fair bit of grace. I concede that the head lights on the Jag are not perfect, but the rest of the design is stunning IMO.

It a fabulous machine ...... but there's still something about the front that doesn't feel quite right. Its those 'surprised to see you I've just had a facelift and my forehead is too tight' front lights i think.

The rest of the car is just what you would expect from an Ian Callum design - i.e. very nicely shaped and well resolved (and with a wonderful contemporary interior).

I'm not sure I could cope with that front view every time I left the house though.

Pity .... 'cos its obviously a stormer.

You could always reverse it up the drive when you get home.

I absolutely love it and red will do me fine.

Believe me I love Jags, well XJs anyway, but to me, and it seems I'm not alone, the XF looks a bit like a big Mondeo.

I think you are letting your personal bias and like of XF to sway your opinion.

No one is saying they are carbon copies of each other, but if you can't see the similarity then I am lost for words......

Its not in the detail, but the silhouette (sp?) and general shape. In this respect they are very alike.

I have to say I dont see it either. I have a new XF living about 200 yards to my right and a new Mondeo to my left (its even a top spec one). I know which way I would turn and besides basic saloon/hatch hybrid shape I don's ee it either.

Aaaargh.

Of course I'd rather have an XF than a Mondeo, and the idea of the car above finally being a decent rival to the German uber-saloons is fantastic. I just think it looks like a Mondeo.

Considering that you'd never mistake an XJS for any other car or an X350 (save for thinking it's a 1970 XJ6), I think that the XK does look to similar to a Mondeo considering we're used to Jaguar's individual styling (yes, I know XK and DB7/V8)

Sorry, I honestly don't think I'm being influenced by my like of the XF - I just genuinely don't see it. Obviously there's a limit to what you can do with a design and there are similarities, but to highlight the XF's similarity to a Mondeo above everything else just seems odd. Don't you think the back looks like an Aston for example? The rear quarter looks a bit like a Lexus, the front quarter like a BMW etc etc. But to focus on the Mondeo just seems unfairly negative IMO.

Blimey I must be getting old. I want a Jaguar and I can remember when white was the naffest colour you could have on a car. Now everyone wants one.

Given my complaints about the knee-jerk comments on ever X6 thread, I'm not going to discuss the looks.

This appears to be a great car and an alternative to the M5. From everything I've read, the M5's character suits me better, but I admire Jaguar's achievement here.

I can see the styling cues re an Aston. But on the road an XF just doesn't look like one, too big and tall.

don't get me wrong, I like the XF and what it stands for. But more than one I've mistaken one for a Mondeo and vice versa. I'm pretty good at spotting and IDing cars too (so much so that I get called autistic).

I do agree with some other comments on here though, in the past a Jag has always looked like a Jag, from the XK120 right thru to the current XJ and XK. The XF just looks a little bland and non descript.

Show it to oa non car person and I suspect they'd have a real hard time IDing it as Jag.

Indeed. I pointed one out to my wife and she said it looked just like a Mondeo from the back. As, completely unprompted, did another female colleague.

Quite a few people do think the XF looks like a Mondeo. That's reality.

Are there any performance stats for it? 0-100mph, 1/4 mile trap times, top speed etc.
I have just come back from the Jaguar/Land Rover test tack in Gaydon and did five top speed runs in the XFR. Everytime it hit just over 175mph in a standard car. The limiter is apparently 'elastic' and with a long enough straight it will stretch past 155 mph. I was told it would go over 190 mph with no limiter at all but then the aerodynamics of the car need to change. It was much more fun to drive than the new 5.0 XKR although that is quick too. We had a drag race with the two and they were identical all the way. Awesome crackle on overrun. Just wish it was even louder.......

I'd personally love an XFR and I were brave enough I'd get a bright red one just like the one in this months Evo. I'll just hang on a bit until any new car problems are ironed out. If BMW M5 prices are anything to go by, factor in the colossal depreciation that invariable affects big engined Jags, then a used one should be an absolute bargain.

I wasn't sure about the front at first, but now after seeing quite a few on the road, I think they look lovely.

Don't see the Ford Mondeo similarities at all.
Exactly how I felt and now feel.
Yes, me too. I see one near me regularly that looks amazing in a light shade of metallic blue.
