Quite clearly designed, built and set-up for the US market.

Shame, especially as there won't be an M-version.

I think the Alpina version could be quite special though...
I totally agree.
They could also move that door handle to fall in with the v shape in the door. As it is, it looks stuck on as an after thought.

It's great to see BMW's marvellous -35i twin turbo engine in another model, but the significant increases in size and weight don't bode well.

However, I'll reserve judgement until I have a go in one.

I find myself rather liking it...but not in that colour. Recent BMWs have always been very colour and Wheel size sensitive. In a dark colour I'm sure it'll look much meaner. And there's no M version...yet! There will be in 2-3 years time!

the new 35i weighs 270kg more than its predecessor at 1580kg.

yikes That's heavy! That's as much as two Elises.

I understand they are going for more of a GT car but 1580kg for a two seater of that size is ridiculous
Totally agree, that is one fat lardy arse car, looks like BMW have thrown in the towel with the z4 when competing against real sports cars. Shame.

This is rather disappointing. I think they have decided to move the Z4 up to the fat man's market and there is a Z2 coming to replae the Z4.

Im a big fan of the old Z4 but i think this one is pretty sweet and as others have said will look better in dark colour. Whoever posted the pic of the Z4MC with csl wheels as a comparison isnt giving the new car a chance in my eyes, as he posted a picture of the old car in its definitive spec whereas the new one is in slipper biege....

Did anyone ever do something silly and shove a V8 or V10 in the old Z4 at all a la the Z3 Shnitzer or the Hartge coupe?
Yes, there are a few V8 conversions knocking around. (Despite BMW stating the engine and transmission do not fit.)

There is one that was a regular last year at the Nurburgring on weekday evenings. IIRC it had the M5 V8 in it.

I thought Alpina or someone similar had made one with the M5 engine in it.

As for the new one I quite like the side profile, not too sure on the rest it looks a bit too toned down but the interior looks very nice cool

Hmm, this was a test rig. Got speaking to the guy when he started it up and it was definitely not a straight six.

I cannot remember for the life of me which company it was. Think it began with a K which makes me want to say Konigsegg -which is obviously wrong........

Was in no way a bodge job. If anyone else can help out it was an orange colour with the side scoops (if that makes sense) in yellow. Sounds awful I know, but did work in a strangely 60's Healey way.

That would be AC Schnitzer's effort.

Problem with these Concept's that have large engines is that this doesn't necessarily mean a Production car can be made - BMW need to ensure the larger engine's don't negatively affect crumple zones etc and fail safety tests.

Too big, too heavy, too soft in my opinion. A Z2 roadster at no more than 1250kg with the n/a 3.0 six could be brilliant.

A lot of people may not agree, but this is one of the most beautiful cars ever made if you ask me.

So its just AC-S making a concept car, they didnt actually make more than one?
