Did anyone ever do something silly and shove a V8 or V10 in the old Z4 at all a la the Z3 Shnitzer or the Hartge coupe?
Yes, there are a few V8 conversions knocking around. (Despite BMW stating the engine and transmission do not fit.)

There is one that was a regular last year at the Nurburgring on weekday evenings. IIRC it had the M5 V8 in it.
Are these home garage bodge up job or done by someone useful?
Hmm, this was a test rig. Got speaking to the guy when he started it up and it was definitely not a straight six.

I cannot remember for the life of me which company it was. Think it began with a K which makes me want to say Konigsegg -which is obviously wrong........

Was in no way a bodge job. If anyone else can help out it was an orange colour with the side scoops (if that makes sense) in yellow. Sounds awful I know, but did work in a strangely 60's Healey way.
That would be AC Schnitzer's effort.

http://www.ac-schnitzer.de/en/bmw-cars/pop-ups/sou...

Problem with these Concept's that have large engines is that this doesn't necessarily mean a Production car can be made - BMW need to ensure the larger engine's don't negatively affect crumple zones etc and fail safety tests.
So its just AC-S making a concept car, they didnt actually make more than one?
I dont know if you seen this video but it's quite cool. It's the AC Schnitzer Profile concept taking on the Nurburgring. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3x9XsiB0KI

Also quite cool is their last Z4 concept the V8 Topster (ignore the video's title, it's a Z4 not a Z3) which they made when the Z4 was first released. That one had a last gen M5's V8 engine.

But of course the ultimate Z4 engine transplant would have to be this Z4 M roadster with the current M5's V10. Apparently it was custom made by Hartge. I bet that gave many a Porsche and Ferrari drivers a fright!

Looks like it came out of a plastic mould IMO.

Shame they build them in America.

Just how much of a posing t*sser do you have to be to want this car? The Merc isnt know as the SLGay for nothing.
You seem to have an extreme distaste for any BMW and as you don't list your current car makes us wonder if you are qualified for such vitriol

I used to like the look of the E46 and I preferred it over the E92 until I started seeing more E92 around and then the E46 started to look dated. When a new model comes out (remember the Sierra replacing the Cortina) they usually get panned and after a while you see more on the roads and the new style grows on you.

I didn't take to the Z4 when it first came out either but I like this. I will seriously think about buying one probably in black or dark grey but I wont want to let my E92 go smile

A lot of people may not agree, but this is one of the most beautiful cars ever made if you ask me.
It's all subjective but I'm with you there. One of the best looking of the modern era and one of the best proportioned cars ever. That's a beauty, Sixspeed.

I certainly agree... and this particular one is the finest of the fine.

New car has a nice butt, but a paper bag face.

Crude, but it really does sum up how I feel.

15 pics and NOT one of the interior. pah...

Looks sharper than the old one, the worst bit of the previous model was the droopy front end (the 6 series is even worse in that respect) and I'm not sure the new version has done it better though, will have to wait to see one in the flesh first.

Do think it will be a very colour sensitive car though. The sharper looks may well suit a dark colour.
