Couple of years ago I saw a newish 'cobra' coupe on autotrader that had apparently been scaled up to about 105% for bigger people to use. Looked pretty smart from the pictures, anyone any idea what it would have been?

skid, that's stunning!! thumbup
Many thanks. Was an 8 year olds dream that lasted and survived to adult hood, unlike being an astronaut or owning a chocolate factory! frown

Here it is in 2004 sans roof......

..... but it was not long after his at way over 140mph that the screen cracked and folded in with the sheer wind pressure that I decided to push V8 Cobra Replicas along and get one of their first roofs to help the aerodynamics.

I have a split boot and smooth roof rather than the hatch back version of the roof, which I prefer and is also more in line with the original.

Cheers
Mark

Yes, that was the work of the original Cobra Daytona designer, Peter Brock. It was a masterpiece, and you can buy the completed car or a kit today. Sadly, Peter Brock lost his life in one, driving too hard on a damp day on semi-slick tyres. The car he created was no deathtrap, but the speed he was going in the conditions he was driving in proved more than his considerable skill could save. The Brock Superformance coupe is a re-creation of the original with many of the limitations he encountered while designing the first one eliminated.

Don't get me wrong. Love the look, but...

to get out you have to raise the top half, which is the roof and window, then open the door. Then you close the door and shut down the roof section. Wouldn't it just be easier to have the window as part of the door and leave the roof as a conventional panel ?

Erm, Pete Brock Daytona designer isn't dead - did you mean Peter Brock the Australian driver?

Strange how the imitated becomes the imitator - this MKVI looks exactly like a Dax with DB hard top!!!

You are correct, sir. It never occurred to me that the Peter Brock who died in '06 at the wheel of a Brock Superformance coupe might be a *different* Peter Brock than the man who designed it.

Just like some of the motoring press 'typical' openers
we now get PH openers in the same vein.
Might as well be reading The Sun.

AC Cars will launch... AC Cars says this, ...says that...

HOLD ON!
Reading this opener 'suggests' to the uninitiated that the company 'AC Cars' is alive and well with no problems then?

Correct... or not?

As long as PH has an ample supply of reasonably well informed cynical misanthropic bds I think the world, or at least this corner of it, is safe from the tidal wave of car company PR bks.

Bit misleading those photos.

Firstly hardtops on Cobras all share one common problem. They look terrible from the front. Been around for ages at kit car shows.

Second, no ones ever done one with a convincing side window. If you look on the photos, one minute the car has a side window, one minute it doesn't, with the problem of showing no obvious mechanical way for it to either slip into the side of the car door, or fold up into the roof, but attach when down.

Bit of poetic licence with the photos and presto, all the problems gone away.

I think I'll wait for the non photoshop working version. smile

The cheeky bu66ers, the rear screen in their pictures is one that I own the tooling for, even the heated screen electrical connections are visible, and the cut out in the top of the blackout perimiter is still there.
There is only one place in the world you can buy those screens from...... Me, and they haven't been anywhere near. redface)
Someone did contact my manufacturer a few weeks ago to buy 5, but they were shown the door.
Some serious Photoshop work there, even the body is a Dax and the wheels are image split rims.
It just looks like a mix of the GD top, the Cobratops top and my top all mixed together.

Hmm, a bit of a mess of a story this isn't it.
You cloud nine posters realise there are plenty of very nice Cobras about don't you? and I'm sure they are also better value than ever smile
