A badly built TVR?

(edit: Melling might build really really good cars, but this is the internet)

You people do realise that PH started as a TVR owners forum. Given that this is the closest we now have to a production TVR, is it any surprise it gets quite a bit of coverage here?

Any idea if there are plans to fair those headlamps in with polycarbonate etc?

So how about an update on what Noble are doing?

Or visiting the Ultima factory?

Actually we do want to increase our coverage of UK specialist manufacturers - so give us a chance and we'll do our best to get around to thenm.

Im just wondering why its so fashionable to have a dig at any small manufacturer who is attempting to produce a viable product such as this ?

Ah was waiting to hear a disguised yank bashing to come out on here, glad I was not disapointed. Personally I like the Melling offering and am seriously contemplating importing one to Canada.

clapclap I have only been a member for about seven years (me thinks), and it does seem like there was a lot less cynical garbage then. I love someone making a fast car. I may not like it, but someone else will and may buy it. What's wrong with that ?

Just for the record, my Chim 450 seemed like a poorly made kit car at times, but I sure wish I still owned it.

no yank bashing, just my personal feedback on live axled cars (you'll note i slagged off my old fisher fury which i loved) If I was yank bashing I'd have said so and wouldn't be commenting on a BRITISH built car. All those who I have read or heard that have tested higher powered mustangs(drivers republic, top gear) have commented on the higher powered versions inability to get the power down and transfer the huge poke to decent lap times. There was however a Rouse or shelby mustang (please correct me) WITH IRS that posted a better time than a higher powered version when tested by top gear.

Why does Melling get such a hard time from you lot. TVR as a going concern with a future turned into a fantasy along time ago, why then such a downer on Melling, thought you would be happy that someone was giving the concept another go?

The only factory IRS equipped Mustangs that I can think of are the Cobra variants of the previous generation built from 1999-2004. I say it in the plural because there were two different specs. The early one was a naturally aspirated, all-aluminum 4.6 with 320 hp, while the later car had an iron-block supercharged 4.6 putting out 390 hp.

Personally, I think that Al Melling, in spite of all the bashing, is the real deal, and I like his work--at least what I know of. I also like the Wildcat. What I don't quite get is why Melling say things such as not wanting power windows and other convenience features that people who are bought TVR's wanted in a car due to the weight (TVR's were still light) and then use an engine such as the Viper V10 and an all-iron Chrysler 440? Those engines are really heavy, even though the Viper's unit is all-aluminum.

Dodge dont seem to sign deals on the current engine block, if you look at all the retro installs like Bristol with the Fighter, the Spanish outfit GTA Motor, etc they all have the old engines

I really don't get what makes the Wildcat so exciting? I've seen plenty of articles about them recently but they don't make me say "oooo, look at that" the way a TVR did/does.

That would be brilliant- a series of articles on small volume British manufacturers, showing how they are made, what they are upto, whats in the pipeline, driving impression etc etc.

Good luck!

The Roush-tuned one had 'modern' suspension, correct.
