Lets Torque... You don't get a 1.2 SRi. The SRi is a name reserved for the 1.4s IIRC, you mean an SXI smile
Ah thanks, I would want the 1.4 SRi. Do you know the difference between the Twinport and normal ones?

Twinport technology simply put involves partially blocking off one of the two inlet ports on each cylinder at low engine speeds.

Explains it well IMO smile

I think it's fair to say I've been obsessing over this car lately;

And it's only going to get worse over the next week...

That Aston is on my 'Must Own' car list, anyway my obsession may be shot down in flames, but here goes anyway!

Before we can get any of the above cars mentioned we need a first car!

So this is what I'm thinking of as a first car as I'm 16

I'm not 'Obsessing' over it, but that's the car I'm thinking of for my first car.

I've got one coming in as a part-exchange soon, sounds like you're just the man... wink

(1.4 of course, like Skene said.)

Today, I'm feeling an anonymous looking Astra Mk3 5 door hatchback (5 door is a must for sleeper appeal)

With this under the bonnnet!

C20LET from a Cavalier Turbo, tuned to around 300bhp, I'll be happy with that, cheers!

Will you actually be able to get insurance on the SRi without fronting? I would have thought as a first car you may even struggle with getting insurance on an SXi? Perhaps more attainable would be something like a Corsa Life which won't come with the slightly more obvious connotations of the SXi and the SRi. It looks like these days the Expression and the S are the cheapest ones. Maybe look back into what the lower end Corsas were a few years ago and set your sights on one of those? With a years NCB in one of those, you could always move up to the SRi later?

In a funny aside, I remember in the 90's when my grandma had a Corsa GSi and how she had found it was very quick out of the lights!

I have to say, my mate has just passed his test at 22 and bought a brand new Corsa SXi. It's properly insured to it's full value and even he is paying £2000 a year for insurance with a proper full time job, parked on his drive. In a way, I'm inclined to say he has done well as a new driver even though that is a massive amount of money for a Corsa!

My first car cost me £1600 a year to insure and was the lairy mk5 Fiesta Zetec S!

I know 'women' are lower risks on insurance but my sister had her insurance cut by £1,000 without doing anything illegal. The insurance is with Admiral Multi-Car

If you have more than one car in your house-hold then Admiral Multi-Car is the way forward. You insure all your cars under one policy and each driver can build up thier NCB individually. IMO its great.

There is a certain PH'er that's got a modified 1.8 Astra Coupe Bertone.. (wackojacko) and he pays £1600 for insurance, and all the modifications he made, he has told to the insurers. Again its with Admiral Multi-Car.

I'm not sure how they do it so cheap but they do so thats all that matters to me.

Im expecting around £1200-1500 to insure the Corsa.

I was looking at 1.7 Honda Civic Coupe's but I think it will be too much, even for Admiral. I will have a look in December when I start driving though

ME:

learner driver at 17 = £500 on mothers name
passed at 17 = £900 on mothers name
passed at 18 (same car - mk3 fiesta) = £700 on mothers name
Passed at 18-20 on MG ZR 1400cc on monthers name (building my own NCB via CIS) = £1k a year average
21year old, own name, focus 1600 estate tdci = £1200
22year old, own name, focus 1600tdci estate = £590
3months later changed to SAAB 9-3 vector sport = £1500 (CIS)
1year later CIS quote at £2800 per year. Im 24, the OH is 23. 1 DAY later, SAAB with Admiral £1k, I add on the OH and save £350 a year, which is nice as she steals it 2days a week.

On old policy (mothers name) works banger beemer 320 estate (1996) that I use for work, she uses as dog cart (at 24year old next month, 5years NCB for me, 6for her) £750 and £500 excess.

Go figure!

NB: previously had 200SX for £500 a year, which went to £2300 the next year.
