£50k though puts it in price with 4 seaters like the new M3. i know they aren't exactly the same market (but it still goes like stink, easily fits 4 people, and has a huge boot); it would be interesting to see if this were much quicker round a track than an M3.... because at the same price as one, with much less rear seat room and a smaller boot....it will have to be a fair bit quicker!!

still - i do like that lotus, lovely colour too biggrin
I doubt the Evora is quicker than an M3, but outright performance has never really been the point of Lotus's road cars. If you want a fast car in this market, you just buy a Nissan GTR.

Well, I hope it sells like hot cakes, and if it drives that well then it probably will.

And from THIS angle it looks great.

I still think the front overhang is way too long though.

Lotus are the only car manufacturer that 'get' the way ahead with sports cars - light and nimble.

I bet you can have more fun in this at legal speeds than you can in an M3 in three figure mph.

This car in on my list for the future - hope the build quality is up the the job of scaring BMW and Porkers.

I know its gay and all but any danger of a topless version - bored of having to take the estate as scanvengers want lifts everywhere. The shape makes it look possible.

Well done to Lotus for building a pointless car that every other manufacturer in the world has decided is not worth building - a mid engined 4 seater.

Pointless. This configuration plainly does not work. If you cant fit 4 adults in it then its not a 4 seater. If you cant fit 2 children in it for anything more than a quick trip down the shops then its pointless. I bet it would border on cruelty to travel anywhere more than 10 miles in this thing with two nippers in the back.

Mazda proved you can build an exciting 4 seat coupe with the RX8. All it needs is an engine that doesnt have a drink problem. If Lotus could match it for practicality, comfort and looks then they'd have a winner.

Its plainly just another 2 seat Lotus with a bit more room for an overnight bag. The rear must be claustrophobic and opresive. My little one would be whinging and puking with 10 miles if shoved in the back of that.

You issue shouldn't be with the car, it should be with a 2+2 layout. They are all the same, look in the back of an XK8, 911, and many others. The rear seats are token efforts primarily for short journeys.

I'd rather have a mid engined 2+2 than a front or rear engined one, after all, 99% of the time there would only be the driver in it.

Cheer up and stop being so negative.

i love the look of the Evora and hope it is a success for Lotus. However, my £50k would be going on a Nissan GTR

I may have misunderstood the opening paragraph in the review, but the current Europa was never designed to carry four people. It only has two seats. In which case, carrying four would certainly be an issue...

Unless there's been an edit, the reference is to an Excel, Lotus' 80's toyota powered 2+2.

I like the look of the Europa in most of the the photos, i'm looking forward to seeing one. The interior and build looks much better than my exige. Looks like a really nice, sensible car.

Nice, best of luck to Lotus!

I wonder how long it will be until someone makes a bolt on super charger kit? smile
Rather conveniently, Toyota (or rather its TRD division) already makes a supercharged version this engine (323bhp) for the Australian market TRD Aurion.

Quite a favourable write up there.

I wish Lotus the best of luck with this model, if I had the money I would be down the showroom to order one of these, in black with cream leather. As the next step up to the Elise, for me it's just what I'm looking. Maybe in a few years time...

These are some of best pictures I've seen of the Evora, I don't think it photographs very well and is very colour sensitive. Those of you who are saying it's ugly wait till you see one in the flesh in the right colour, it's a lovely looking car IMO.

I hope that Lotus manage to fix the niggles that a lot of the review have mentioned e.g. reflections in the windscreen. It would be a real shame if this car failed due to lack of attention to detail, that people in this price bracket are going to want.

I saw a pre-production model in Suffolk over the Easter weekend and thought the interior looks great. In fact I got so close I set off the alarm!

To me it definitely looks like a 50 grand car - was striking in the flesh.

A Twin test with the Cayman S will be the acid test though...but whatever testers say I will probably still prefer the Lotus tongue out

Hey Martin

John here! How you doing? Hows the Elise? I would PM you, but it won't let me for some reason....

Car is looking good. I SERIOUSLY miss it. Hope your are looking after her for me!?!

So, Evora on the list for an upgrade then eh? I have to say, a second hand one in a couple of years is definitely a serious prospect. Seen a couple in the flesh at both the factory and car shows and they look so much better than the photos. Fantastic little thing.....

Anyway, hope you still having fun with the motor and keep in touch!

Look forward to the Supercharged versions. I like it, lovely interior, engine will be reliable and has good power (although 300bhp may have been a better starting point), and the outside looks really nice. I hope it does well for lotus.

Well done Lotus. I understand that the ride, handling and brakes are class leading on the Evora. Great that we Brits (with a little foreign investment wink) can still wheel out superb cars...

Can't wait to test one..

That aside, am I the only one who see's the passing similarity with the 308 GT4, especially the roof line and rear side window??

Hi John, I'm good thanks, how's the MR2? Hope you're well. Still planning to get a 111R?

Car is going well at the moment, needed a bit of work last year but seems to be running well now. Take a look at my profile and you can see what I've done.

Really like the Evora, if things go well it would definetly be on my radar in a few years time when I'm hopefully earning a bit more money.

Just read the new news article "The company is also likely to launch a motorsport version" that sounds very interesting! More power and less weight good combination.

Nice looking car although I am not sure about that back end. Nice colour too but the gloomy miserable shoot doesnt help it at all. 276 bhp from a 3.5 litre V6 is a bit weedy, should have been 350'ish bhp without supercharger, maybe that will be the GT version. At £50,000 I think their streaching their luck to far it just isnt worth that kind of money, £35,000 maybe.

If the 911 is the aimed competator for this, then how much room is there in the back of a 911? I've only ever been in the front smile
Sounds like the rear is for small kids only - is that realistically what the rear seats of a 911 is?
Much better room in the back of the Porsche - you could just about squeeze a small adult in the back of a 911. I don't know who they expect to fit in the back of the Evora - even my kids who are both under 8 would never get in the back. That said, it means that potential buyers can at least tell their other half that it's a four seater ..... wink

I can't wait to see one in the flesh and hopefully drive (maybe even own) one in the future. I certainly haven't bought my last Lotus.

I hope they sell as many as they want (abroad and in the UK).
