I put them in a league above porsche who I consider both eccentric and unimaginative.
You must be thinking of Bristol. Porsche got to be the most successful car company on the planet by making superb products that combined passion and engineering integrity that tens of thousands of people want to buy.

Oh yes, they also have a racing pedigree second to none.

You do know about Lotus racing pedigree??
Enough to know that its been 25 years since they won an F1 race and eons since they won an international sports car race.

I agree Bristol are at least imaginative.

Despite the bland styling Porsche are nothing if not eccentric. Air cooled cars up until the late 90's, rear engined cars still in production (surely the only one left? you have to hope so), their new and utterly stupid button gearshift on the new double clutch transmission (there was me thinking tiptronic was awful), they now make a 4x4s too. Can you imagine a Ferrari SUV? Exactly.

Need I go on?

'Lightweight' and 'electric folding roof' do not fit in the same sentence.
If there was an electric roof option for the elise I would pay more for the superb non-electric design it currently uses. A lot more. It comes off and stows in the boot faster than the electric one on my old honda s2000 used to.
That's quite incredible. I struggle to get out of the car in 7 seconds, let alone try to dismantle a roof frame and pop it in the boot. You need to pass your skills onto the poor sods on the M6 toll road I saw a few years ago. Both I and the Elise had our roofs down when we were caught out by a sudden downpour. Stopping for the toll booths, I had the roof up in a jiffy, whereas the Elise guys looked rather bedraggled as they wrestled with the roof biggrin

Now if you mean that the S2000 roof take times to put down if using the daft tonneau cover as well, then you have my agreement. That's why the tonneau cover is usually stored in the same place as the hard top, collecting dust in the back of the garage!
