Well I wouldn't count out the internal combustion engine just yet. In the future they may not run on petrol, but I reckon the last personal cars to roll off production lines will be powered by internal combustion engines. If you fast forward 50yrs from now I reckon the H&S brigade would have banned cars altogether and we will all be ferried around in some form of automated pods horrified at the prospect that only 50 yrs ago people were allowed to be in control of 1.5 ton lumps of metal hurtling along open roads shared with cyclists and pedestrians.
