A question for those that actually have one. Do they work at normal road speeds, or do they suffer the same issues that Fast Scoobys and Evos do, which is one of only really coming alive at licence losing speeds?
At normal road speeds it is docile and comfortable.
I never found my Evo to be difficult at low speeds. Great all round cars.
Unless hes referring to the fact that low rev acceleration isnt that great?
The gtr is ridiculously quick at any point on the rev range, although better top end.
Also infinitely more comfortable than the Evo although plenty firm enough in R mode.
TBH, I loved the Evo and for the money I thought it was a brilliant car, but it is not comparable to the GTR. When I drove my Evo8fq up to Silverstone for the GTR trackday, the Evo felt cheap and slow after the GTR. Not many cars that could make driving the Evo a bit sterile!

"futuristic",.
Exactly how I describe it.
A friend likened it to flying a jet with the cockpit and jet-like engine sound.

David Godzilla - are you bringing your GT-R to the SuperCar run at Goodwood this coming Sunday?

Sorry the post was obviously unclear. My experience of Evos and Scoobies are that you need to be going extremely fast for them to feel special - often faster than the road conditions permit. Contrast this to an Elise or 7 which seems to dance at even low speeds - each drive being a real occasion.

I just wondered whether the GTR - because it has such massive performance on tap - suffers from that same problem. That you need to be going way beyond what is safe on a road for it to come alive and feel special.

Hi Martin, no, I'll be in Cornwall this coming Sunday, but there is a Breakfast Run to Goodwood on Sunday 7th and I'll be going on that.
What about you?

Complete sacrilege on this site, but that may just be the one car I'd sell my TVR for.

Im not totally sure what you mean.
It appears that you are just differentiating between cars with a high level of grip and those without.
Both Evos and the GTR feel completely stable and 'ordinary' at low speeds unde limited acceleration.
I think its a perception thing. If I drive ELises on the road I think they feel st. Amazing fun on a track, but OTT, hard, uncomfortable and pretty dull driving around day to day. I almost feel silly in something so sporty pottering around.

I can fully understand what a great car it is, but it doesn't remotely appeal.
Its an odd thing, fairly unique to the GTR that people need to tell others that they dont want one.
I think it is an oddity about the GTR, because I have no idea why such an obviously capable car has so little appeal to me. Given the reviews and specs, I should find the car fascinating, but somehow I don't even particularly want to try driving one. Odd.

I can relate to that completely.
But cars that fit that description for me, just make me stay off the threads completely and stop reading articles about them. A car that causes me enough disinterest to register my disinterest on threads about it is a complete paradox to me smile

But I am interested in the car at a technical level. Just not at a more practicable one. I suppose that I'm hoping that one day I'll actually understand my apathy. hehe

At a guess, you assume it would be st to drive?
Its a fair assumption as the way its decriers talk- you just sit there and the car drives for you and you feel useless. YOu cant actually imagine anything about it that will thrill you.

All this talk about the fact the GT-R will feel dull at legal speeds is daft, what properly quick car doesn't? A bmw 325i feels dull at legal speeds!

Also, I would like to bet that the GT-R feels composed near the limit because it has partly been developed at the Nurburgring. This is a good place to engineer out twitchyness at the limit!

Good write up.

I had my first genuine 'go' in one this afternoon, quite interesting I thought...

Personally I can take or leave the looks; it's generic big coupe to me, and in the metal it was pretty plain. Then again it was sitting next to a couple of Porsche rs replicas, which make anything look dull. It sounded pretty crap outside as well.

fk did it go though. It grips like nothing else, and I was chucking it carelessly after a few minutes with no bite back.

Mentioned in this article though - the ride. Been dubious about it since the first road tests were published; how can 1n 1800kg beast that corners so well ride? It doesn't. I'd almost go as far as to say it's unusable day to day, it's really fking hard.

I can't see the appeal honestly. Yes it's faster than nearly anything, but hey, big deal. Good achievement, but no thanks. Considering what you can get for the money (obviously not new (incredible value) but year old R8s and 911s), would one really consider it...
