Mightier MiTo From Novitec

Tuner conversion adds power and styling to 'mini' Alfa

German tuner Novitec is offering Alfa MiTo owners some go-faster goodies, including a ‘plug and play’ ECU upgrade that gives an extra 31hp.

Novitec says it takes five minutes to install the ECU modification on the 1.4 TB turbocharged petrol MiTo, and that the resulting 186hp output coupled to an extra 22lb ft of torque will shave 0.7secs off the standard 0-62mph time – dropping it to 7.4secs.

There are also ECU mods available for the 1.3 and 1.6 JTD diesel models, both conversions adding around 20hp.

There are two chassis suspension set-ups available for the MiTo, one which is a straightforward spring swap that lowers ride height by 40mm. The other offering is a stainless-steel coil-over set-up with adjustable ride-height and damping, giving a sportier ride and height adjustment between 35 and 65mm lower.

Novitec has also come up with a range of styling options for the MiTo, including new spoilers, rocker panels and diffuser.

A stainless steel exhaust is said to offer maximum power and a more exciting exhaust note, and can apparently be combined with one, two or four tailpipes.

The look is completed by a set 18ins multi-spoke alloys wrapped in Pirelli rubber.

Yum! Actually quite appeals to my boy racer side...

20hp upping 0-60 by .7 sec? I'm no expert but that sounds a lot!

So it's a small, nearly 200bhp hatchback and it still takes seven and a half seconds to get to 60? confused

Its still a pretty horrific-looking piece of machinery, isn't it? Especially in white. I think Alfa have lost the plot of late with the Brera and Mito both looking oddly squashed up and disappointing to drive. Back in the day I'd have given my eye teeth for a GTV or a 156 V6. Every Alfa since I've looked forward to and gone to have a look at but when you see them in the flesh there is no desire to drive or own one. Probably the only Alfa I'd consider for more than 2 seconds is the GT.

Well, I for one think this looks great! Agree they don't drive like they should and that is what would stop me buying one but this Novitec version certainly appeals to me visually.

Normally I love Alfas, but that front end is truly shocking. I could never drive something that ugly

Is it just me that was a little dissapointed to find Novitec have done something that doesn't seem remotely bonkers?

When I read Novitec MiTo, I instantly thought 300bhp and 9 turbos.

It's the 0-25mph time that's the problem. How do you get the power down? The in gear times will be excellent.

Looks ok from the side but the front and rear leave a lot to be desired.

Erm, isn't it an extra 31hp dropping the 0-60 by 0.7 seconds? That's a 20% increase in power so seems reasonable.

At a guess, I'd say lack of traction.

Or just a conservative figure?

It's likely more like 7 seconds flat at that kind of output to 62mph/100km/h

That would sound more likely to me too. 7.4 seconds at that power output would mean it's either a fair bit heavier than I had assumed, or has seriously bad traction.
