Ah yes, poor form on my part there, Jonny - don't have a pic of rear seats, but a 4 and 6 year old should fit in - i'm not exactly tall at 5' 8" and a fag paper, but I would cope for medium-length journeys.Price-wise, the 500 sport is £48,360 OTR

Given that it's E-class based, I'd imagine you should be able to get four 6-footers in it, in at least reasonable comfort. Vulgar, vulgar, vulgar: like all new Mercedes, BMW and Audis, it is a triumph of styling (certainly not style) over substance. Whither the subdued, simple, substantial w107, w123, w124 and w126 coupes of yore? Why can I not have one without the pushy visage, the bling-a-ling wheels, the fry-your-eyeballs lights? Why can I not have one in "Elegance" spec? Why can I not have one in any colour other than grey metallic? Why must I have all of thsoe useless knobs and buttons? I neither want nor need (and certainly do not wish to pay for) satellite navigation, lane assist, driver assist, bumwipe assist, think for myself assist.
This is what I want:
500 CE (ok, ok, E500 coupe if you must) with a nice 5 speed automatic transmission. Who needs 7 speeds with nearly 400lb/ft torque? And no paddles or tipshift or any of that useless nonesense.
A big fuel tank: at least 100litres, preferrably 130.
Non-metallic orient red, moss green or pueblo beige paint over date pleated leather seats.
Zebranno wood trim but not too much of it. Dashboard only.
Heated seats.
Air conditioning.
Cruise control (normal not distronic, thank you).
Electric windows. An electric sunroof.
Seat back nets for my map.
A front centre arm rest.
A compact disc player and AM/FM wireless.
ABS. ESP. Seat belts with nice presenters. Passenger, driver and side airbags.
Orange indicators. I'd give anything for orange indicators.
Oh, and concealed exhaust pipes. Hide them under the bumper like they used to be. Anything but these fake boy racer efforts.
Most importantly: I want it to do 20,000miles a year for the next 30 years. Ideally this bodyshape will remain in production for 9 or 10years.
I will happily pay any sum of money for such a vehicle. Cash. Not HP. Not lease finance. Not some stupidly complicated PCP arrangement for people who can't afford it.
Please Mercedes, please: you happily made such cars for decades and were very profitable in the process. Please make them again.

Wonderful memories, I had a 95 E320 coupe, one of the best cars I have owned! They don't make them like that anymore. Shame! This is what I want:

I would disagree, I think my C107 is gloriously vulgar, and not very subduedmercs have always been a bit bling, that big lairy grill, the star over the bonnet

Well said Alex but the problem these days is the people that buy these cars with pcp lease purchase and your right that most cant afford these type of cars want bling and the more the better they want everyone to notice them and think they are loaded! What ever happened to LESS is MORE !!!This is what I want:

The best thing about the E500 is that its such a sleeper car. Its supposed to be a wolf in sheeps clothing not covered in spoilers, slats and big wheels.
Talk softly and carry a big stick.
