im no hippy and im certainly no veggy, i just happen to like animals and despise people/companies who profit from killing them for no reason other than to say ive got frogskin seats in my Bentley rar rar rar etc. Would you buy a car with an ivroy steering wheel? or dogskin carmats? Same principle.
Presumably then, you would be against a regular leather interior too? Made from normal cow hide? im no hippy and im certainly no veggy, i just happen to like animals and despise people/companies who profit from killing them for no reason other than to say ive got frogskin seats in my Bentley rar rar rar etc. Would you buy a car with an ivroy steering wheel? or dogskin carmats? If so, then fine, fair play to you. But if not, I just don't get this 'Frog bad' 'Cow good' train of thought, based on what reasoning?
What about cane toad? Big problem in Australia, they are culled, and they would give a decent sized hide for trimming.
the cows are bred for a purpose, for us to eat, they wouldnt be alive if we hadnt bred them for meat. im not sure if cows are soley bred for their leather? Like ive said before killing an animal for a luxury product is out of order. To survive yes, but not for some wealthy guy to stick his rich ass on.
Erm, milk, butter and cheese come from them. Sadly, old cows do end up in meat pies and the hide may or may not be used for car trim. But if we took this to the nth degree, we'd all be wearng canvas and rubber shoes.

1st of all who ever thought of this clever frog skin interior is in quite simple words...sh%t for brains
now... as a future car designer I believe that this kind of attitude has to stop from the top, its designers like these that have been destroying our natural world, the reason why we are so much sh%t right now with global warming etc.
after knowing that different species around the world are dying out because of human consumption you'd think that designers would think twice about the materials that they use in vehicles/ products. All in all its a bloody bad idea, as well as selfish and cruel.
I hope that this frog skin remains a one off....and that this cruelty opens the eyes of the consumer as to how cruel big companies can be just to make money
(im not a hippy...im a designer thinking about the future)

it was a question I was asking, 'are specific cows solely bred for leather?
No, but there is no distinction between breeding them to eat and breeding them to sit on. They get killed either way.Balmoral Green said:
Actually, as it happens, at the high end of the market, cows are specifically bred for their hide. IIRC the Bentley hides come from a certain breed in one of the Scandinavian countries, raised in a snag free environment (no barbed wire fences etc) to ensure a blemish free skin.
The barbed wire bit is true, but they are definitely not bred for leather.HowMuchLonger said:

A dairy herd is differant to a beef herd. You do not get milk from the same cow as you get the beef.
I am pretty sure the same is for the leather.

Beef cattle are not milked. Calves (of both sexes) are usually slaughtered at 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 years. Breeding cows will be sent for slaughter when they're past their prime, same with the bulls.
Dairy cows are milked. Calves (unwanted pure-bred heifers (bull calves too if they aren't shot) and beef crosses) are usually slaughtered a bit younger. Milking cows will be sent for slaughter when they're past their prime, same with the bulls.
Did you think Iceland burgers were made from prime Angus fillet?
