This must surely be the best looking shooting brake conversion and I suspect sold in the greatest numbers:

I agree. That XJS is one of the best looking estates, but how about this conversion on a Mercedes 300 SEL 6.3?

I've seen one of the 924 estates before - it would be an ideal daily driver if they were as cheap and plentiful as the coupe!
The shooting brakes were based on 937s (924 Carrera GT), so the 'cheap and plentiful coupes' now number under 300 and cost in excess of £15,000! smile

In a way reminiscent of how PHers responded to the doctored pictures of the Bugatti 4-door sedan, I just debunked the picture I posted a little while ago. The red Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3 estate is nothing but a phtoshopped version of one of Mercedes' own official pictures of the 6.3.

So by that definition, John Dodds 'The Beast' is the daddy of all shooting brakes
What this eek

I think they were intended to be used by gentlemen on their estate and would have been the height of tast and discretion. I'm afraid that fails on most counts hehe

the beast was the daddy, great ruddy tank/aircraft engine IIRC
Here is the old topgear review of it....

Are you sure they were based on the 924 Carrera GT and not the 924 Turbo with a Carrera body kit?

Those Astons were bloody awful (esp. the panel alignment on the Virage! BL special, was it?!?)

And the Daytona? Sacrilege...utter sacrilege...excommunicate the offender from petrolhead-dom for ever!

True. You might argue the M Coupe isn't much of an estate though. If you look in the back it's still surprisingly tight - less than most traditional 2+2 coupes I'd say. So, it's do doubt more practical than a Z3 with a hardtop, but it's still a long way from a real estate.
Our 8 stone Rottweiler-English Bull Terrier Cross used to fit in the boot comfortably...

Oh, and it's been asked/used quite a few times, but what the hell is a "shooting brake"???? No need to explain what a shooting break is on the other hand tongue outtongue outtongue out
In England, it's "brake".

Edit:

So a "shooting brake".... is that some device to stop with that allows you to shoot people at the same time then??? wink

Strange that in this occasion you use the term "brake", because "break" is a common term to describe the estate versions of a car over here...

A Brake is a type of horse-drawn carriage. A Shooting Brake is a type of horse-drawn carriage used to transport guns and dogs on a shoot. "Break" on the continent.

Might have been mentioned already - can't be a***d to look through all the threads - but this car was sold at Brightwells in Leominster last month for under 10K.

The tailgate was from an Escort.
you're right, they were hideous. I thought the Virage was ugly enough to start with

Vandebrink where talking about making a Ferrari 599 shooting brake. Not sure if they have done so yet.

It's a 612, not a 599.

I rather like this myself, it looks like a good job to me but each to their own.
