Right, just gonna throw this out there, self-confessed porsche fanboy here and I understand the stick the Panamera is getting about being a stretched 911,

now, what part of that Aston DOES NOT scream 'Stretched DB9' ??????? idea

It is just as generic as the Porsche (IMO) clap Anybody else??

Rant over, runs for cover. . . .
It does scream stretched DB9 but, unlike the Panamera, that hasn't produced an ugly car. The Panamera is getting stick because it's looks are somewhat challenging.
In your opinion, Im in the minority here that I like the Panamera. Can I ask if you like the design/styling of the the 997??
Not just in his opinion. Seen a Panamera at the Nordschleife 2 weeks ago, and it looked "Yuk"... No other words for it. You'd have thought after 40-ish years of reusing the same theme, they'd finally have a designer who could make seomting new, but they missed it completely, if you ask me.

As for the Rapide, looks just lovely to me.

Then again... I've never had a thing for Porsche, AM (and English cars in general) always had a plus for me smile
Aston have taken a simply gorgeous car and stretched it....Ulrich Bez taking his business model from Porsche with him.....and produced a less attractive 4 door version.
Porsche did the same with the 997.....although in this instance (despite me being a Porsche fanboy too) they started from a less attractive base point.

DB9/8 better looking than 997
Rapide better looking than Panemera

I too hope to live long enough to see the day Porsche try something new...really new.
They can do it....the 924 look lasted from 77 to 93.......the 928 from 78 to 91....they SHOULD know how ot produce new and exciting but long lasting designs.....thanks to Bez they have lost that in the name of maximising on one look....shame.

Why can't AM stick to what it did best imo, building the worlds greatest 4 door saloons, as they seemed to stop with the birth of what was and is an absolutely stunning car the DB7.
Let the europeans build light weight two seaters for a blast through the twisty bits and the yanks can build cars that only do straight roads and the world will be a better place.
oh if the money was mine i'd bribe lambo to build me one of theirs...... a bit more individual and less footballers wife

OR

marry an oil baroness and wait for the bug!

I wouldn't be ashamed to arrive somewhere in any AM though smile (whereas for the Panamera, and Porsche in general... never did it for me...)

Spotted this Panamera in Nurburg on Saturday evening.

Words cannot describe just how bad it looked.

So Aston has made a 2 + 2 with a hatchback and folding rear seats so basically a modern day Porsche 944 before Porsche. wink

"so we naturally gave chase in order to grab a couple of 'on the road' shots through the windscreen of our XFR. We were lucky to have 500bhp under the bonnet as the Aston drivers weren't hanging around for a photo call, but after a few minutes of hot pursuit Steve had a couple of shots in the bag"

This kind of carry on can be very annoying when you're trying to get an honest days vehicle calibration/testing work done!
Yeah, but how many times have you read about the "new [car]" only for the press to be so far wide of the mark it's funny... hehe
This is true, and then reading PHers posts foaming at the mouth!

Hard to get looking at that abomination of a 40 year old car design, that people complain the Rapide is looking like "a stretched DB9" then is it? wink

Front bumper is s different colour? Sorry Porsche fans, they got this design wrong ... very wrong IMO. I also dont understand why they spent more time developing its chassis on track when its primary role is to deliver its passenger comfortably across Europes major high ways??

Spotted the Rapide in the photos or at least it's identical twin (Reg K*09) heading clockwise on the Kent section of the M25 after the M20 junction this afternoon. Looked ok, I'm still not blown away by it, but good to see one nonetheless!

I bumped into another prototype on monday on the way to Belgium. Took the photo at the Fexi Plus building, then followed it all the way from Calais to when i turned off for Brugge.

Looks utterly fantastic in the metal, and makes a rather rude noise just like all the other Astons.

I don't care one iota that it looks like the other Astons in the range - they're all stunning. This takes its big British schlong out and slaps the Panamera in the face with it.

Must say, access to the rear seats doesn't look overly impressive though - the door opening is rather small...

Nice!! Wish we'd got a shot of it like that, rather than disappearing up the autoroute at 160km/h biggrin Only thing in the class thats visually close is the QP imho, some could critize it for carrying the Aston family look a bit too far but I like it - especially the white car thats been in the press recently.

Can you imagine cleaning those wheels? Jesus, you'd be there for weeks... hehe

It really is gorgeous though...

One thing that surprised me was that even though it sounded very fruity when accelerating away, when i cruised past it at c.90mph it was dead silent, virtually no wind noise either, very impressive...

You think owners will clean their wheels? biggrin They'd have 'their man' do such menial tasks, shirley wink
