Not true - the F1 was only ever designed as a road car. Only customer demand made them build the race versions ,which were detuned in LeMans spec

Oh fk, thanks for that I never knew. I thought they did the LeMans first thumbup

A Veyron is better to drive down to the shops.
you get there slower.. tho

No you wouldn't, the Macca is a hard car to drive, search for when Brundell tested it in the damp, he almost lost it. It's a race car made for the road, if the FXX was road legal it would be faster than the Macca around a track. The Bug is a fast safe comfy car to whoosh across Europe in. My gran could drive it. Which isn't bad for a 1001 bhp Monster.

Don't get me wrong though, the Macca is a fantastic car which I love.

if u take that approach.. then the aero TT is better.. when the test driver (a old guy(over50)) took it for a 100mph speed run it climbed to 190mph, he said it felt so stable he didnt notice he was going so fast.. so why not get a aero tt, it has more bhp/kg and has more bhp, and is faster...
Sadly because the type of people who have the money to buy a Veyron don't know what a Aero TT is, and probably don't care. It's about image, not specs. You turn up to a party in a Veyron (with a chrome wrap!!!!!1!), you're than guy with the Veyron. Turn up in a Aero TT and it's just screaming 'I'm an anoark'. You'd spend the night telling people that It's not a Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, Toyota, etc. Then you would tell people that it's the fastest car on earth, to which most will reply "Not it's not, the Veyron is!"

I'm actually surprised at the lack of media coverage the Aero TT has gotten. Everyone shat their pants when the veyron was released, the TT has come along with bigger numbers and no one outside the US seems to give a hoot.

Difference being that the bug doesn't bother with weight saving.

It's fast and still a luxury cruiser rather than a racer. Aren't the wiper stalks made of brass or silver or something?

The only thing more ugly than a Veyron, is my X wife, & it took 5 years of living with the bh, before I realised, that to me, she was that ugly.

Veyron is without doubt the absolute pinnacle
The doesn't look like a subjective opinion ,more like a statement of fact!

Perhaps you should review what you write a little more carefully before indulging in needless namecalling?

Certainly not in concept or engineering terms. It was conceived as the ultimate road car; look at the roll in the corners for a testimony to that. The racing version only came later on, and was not involved in any of the design phases. Murray's answered that question many times and he is adamant it's a road car.

It's a hard car to drive simply because it's got over 600bhp, no assistance to the controls and no electronic aids. I reckon that's how a car should be, even if Brundle scared himself in it! (I've got the video!). Bear in mind that Brundle was driving Paul Stewart's F1, and with the wing etc it wouldn't surprise me if it was non standard in suspension or tyres.

This is what makes the F1 special for me. It's not just another racing car like the F40, it was designed as a practical useable road car. I think at the time someone said it had more luggage capacity than a Ford Fiesta, it's got three seats, air con, good hi-fi etc. It's also designed for driving pleasure with no assisted controls, rather than pace. It was actually only originally supposed to have about 450bhp; Murray wanted a V12 and BMW overshot their target somewhat smile

That's precisely why I don't idolise or take an interest in the car, but obviously I do respect it.

All that gubbins makes the thing weigh 2 tonnes, so its power to weight ratio is actually similar to the Mclaren.

The F1 weighs a similar amount to an Exige S, yet has air con, CD player, an extra seat, more luggage space, is quieter and more comfortable. Oh, and it has a 6.2 litre V12 rather than a 2 litre 4 pot! That's a huge achievement in my mind, and a far greater one than making the 2 tonne Veyron.

The F1 has these (not sure about the clock).

I would argue that the F1 is better for not having all these.

yes As I said above, the whole point of the F1 (for me at least) is that it's a comfortable everyday car that is also lightweight and pure but with 627bhp. It's a dream come true and everything I want in a car. The weight and purity of an Exige with the comfort of an Evora and the power of a Porsche 962. Wow smile

With due respect to Mr B, the GTR never really did it for me, I'd probably rather own an ex F1 car, or maybe a 956 or something. The beauty of the F1's design is that it's not just another F40 or Dauer 962, it's actually a useable comfy road car.

The Zonda is the latest object of my affections smile It seems to capture some of the F1's spirit.
