I'm not sure the criticim, such as it was, was about the handling on the limit, which we're unlikely to experience on public roads, I agree. But more about the fluidity, the feel, how well you connect with the car, or whether it moves you, how much of a pleasure to drive.

The PH report's criticisms aptly describe how I feel about my TT compared to my Z4 or TVR. It's fast, a very good car, certainly solid, but I don't love driving it like the others.

Maybe that's what was meant?

I don't just mean in this thread, it's just the way certain people tend to come across on the forum at times.

Coupe looks really good, the convertible just doesn't work for me.
Surely it must be possible to extract another 50bhp from this, and then it may start getting this "soul" people go on about.

It would seem that Audi may have missed the mark with the TTRS, and I agree that the rear spoiler looks wrong, but some of the comments people make are laughable.
The comments that make me laugh most are from the people who criticise the car in question (or the type of person who would drive one) but don't have the bottle to post what they choose to drive in their profile. Or the people who criticise the car and who drive cars that would have received awful write-ups in reviews. I could name names or copy and paste photos of their cars from their profiles here, but that's not my style - you know who you are though!!

Serious thought they would do something like shoehorn the RS4 engine into it and give it some proper bite and not the namby pamby engine they put in...

Shame on you Audi
335bhp 2.5-litre turbocharged five-pot - 'namby pamby' - are you for real??
yep, dont care for the five pot, I thought they would put one of the monsters in and i know it has a turbo and such but that can make up for the growl of a v8.

I bet someone goes and does it.

That's what I was trying to say. My TT (not an RS) is more powerful than my Z4 or TVR were, but has less feel, less engaging. Only my opinion and still an enjoyable car.

I think people miss the point of the TT. It's not meant to be a drivers car like the Boxsters/Exiges/Caterhams and I do find it
amusing that people get worked up about it or harp on about it doesn't have Lotus like telepathic steering, feedback or chassis
adjustability etc etc.

To me, my 3.2 coupe is a cruiser with a creamy V6, it's comfy, nice interior and well built (only a failed wiper in the 2 years).
Don't give a rats arse it doesn't have proper Quattro like the RS4.

If I wanted a pure driver's car, the TT is the last car that I would've went for. The fact that motorbikes for me is where the fun
is at I need not bother with a focussed sports car for the time being (well not until used 997 GT3 depreciates a bit more smile ).

Back on topic, IMO the TT-RS is waaay overpriced plus options. Audi should have re-engineered the car to have a more rear biased
Quattro like the RS4 and shoe horn the same V8 (or even twin turbo the 3.2 V6) but I guessed they were chasing the £££ when they
were developing the car rather than focussing on making a car worthy of the RS badge.

Estate car drivers???? what are you on about?

Merc = for the person who thinks they have made it in life BMW = drug dealers ride, Audi = cocks

The TT is not bland, in fact it is one of the better Audi's IMO.

I doubt I'll ever understand the statements like in that article, I like the fact my car feels solid. I would also hazard a guess that car would be a lot of fun. I guess that's just because I'm an Audi driving cock though.

Would be interesting to see a 335i coupe vs TT RS test.
I think a fairer test would be against a Z4M no?

Although I haven't been in the TT RS, the other TT's I have been in do feel very bland as does every Audi I've been in. I haven't had the pleasure of a new RS4 or an R8 but I'm sure they're exhilarating.

I always thought Merc was for people who liked a soft riding car for long distances, BMW for thos who like handling and driving and Audi for those who love VW but want something a bit posher? Now everyone wants to be like BMW :-)

Don't think Clarkson is right with the Audi drivers comments, VW Passat estate drivers are easily the worst on the roads and then Audi estate drivers. Maybe it's just something about estate cars all together?

You have missed the point... fun does not equal price!!!. When you put fun into the factor you forget about price colour etc. you could drive naked, fun is to concentrate on the car itself.

LOL. It's more expensive than a Boxster S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which do you prefer : an Haldex equipped front-engine high COG car that will drive like a front driver on the limit...

...or a mid-engine low COG roadster with incredible balance/steering/brakes/grip/etc/etc ?

How can anyone think the Audi be "fun" at this price is beyond me. Another triumph of marketing aimed at people with ZERO knowledge of car dynamics.

There is more in life than traction...each to their own though...

For such a boring car it sure stresses people out!

Cards on the table - my TT RS arrives in September. I looked at a lot of cars, but chose it because:

Very very fast
Very well made
lovely place to sit
massive feel good factor.

Maybe it does lose out in the final few tenths to a boxter or cayman, but to be honest i hardly ever get the chance to drive that way. I'm sure most people are like me - boring, busy roads with the odd chance to really blast. For this the shove of the RS is great, and far better than the porker.

In the final analysis though, the porkers are ugly (IMO) and the interiors are bland, unimaginative and cheap.

Yes, i wish the TT had the same drive as my RS4, but then again it's lighter - and you can tell.

I'm going to have fun and not care about the naysayers.

Totally agree - this is one of the points I was hinting at in my earlier post.

So, all Audi drivers are cocks because a middle aged tv presenter (with a mop-top hairstyle and a dodgy sense of style) said so?!

I realise this is a forum for people to express their 'own' opinions, but it just shows a lack of imagination and narrow-mindedness to make these sweeping generalisations.

Totally agree - a design that looks still sharp and fresh nearly 30 years on - very glad I still have mine. I think the TTRS is a good car (why gay spoiler?) and anyone who says RS cars are boring hasn't driven the old RS6 (V8).

+1 JJ1976

I reckon alot of people posting here haven't got behind the wheel of a fast Audi and would benefit from doing so. Maybe not the tactile experience of a Porsche but they have unique qualities of there own which I'm afraid your not going to appreciate by reading (and regurgitating) the motoring press.

Lets get over the spoiler (which IS awful!), you can spec a standard auto-spoiler...

What a useless write up.
I thought Pee heads was all about good honest entusiastic motoring. Most of the write ups are lame and lack any detail.
I have honestly given up reading reviews of cars, most of the journos apart from a handful are in certain manufacturers pockets.
My advice is if you like the look of a car go and have a drive, do a bit of research on forums about potential issues and if all is to your liking buy it! Easy eh?

You know what? I thought exactly the same thing. Not a very interesting read I'm afraid PH!
What did you expect? An interesting review of an uninteresting car? You could always submit better or just log on to a different site.

He's a serial generaliser.

I'm not entirely sure how he can reconcile this TT love-in, with this anti-BMW rant

http://pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&amp...

Hardly in a position to criticise someone for 'getting stressed' about a car!
