Hi,
Im tyring to sell my range rover and buy an audi a2,1.6, they do 34mpg (urban), however my partner is totally against the idea. Are there any major problems with these cars i should be aware of?
Many thanks.

The biggest problem is the way they look.
They look like invalid cars and are mainly bought by very old woman. You normally see them driving them badly in supermarket car parks, taking about 20 minutes reversing backwards and forewards and then deciding its too dificult so driving off to park somewhere else.
The second problem is they are very overpriced for what they are.
34mpg for a 1.6 petrol car is not that good either. Its not sporty at all, most have that 3 pot 1.4 diesel and are a lot better on fuel.

Your Partner may leave you rather than get in it. Dont do it!!

I had 2 as company cars.

Never again. Yes they're economical and a pretty rare sight on the roads, but there's a reason for this.

They're bloody awful.

Honestly, covering anything over 30 miles in one is painfull. They have an odd seating position, not dislike a van and the seats are really uncomfortable.

Plus. Whenever somebody see's Matt driving it around, they're going to think "look at the knob in his wifes car".

Don't do it.

Small economical car you say?

What about an Ibiza FR TDi, or perhaps you could stretch to a diesel Cupra?

130ps/160ps respectively.

Surely the A3 would be a better bet. It's a better car and it won't embarass your bloke

Dear Pistonheads, you didn't give me the right answer to my original thread, so I've made an alternative profile, and replied in the original thread as my alternate persona just to hammer home that fact. Look at me!

If I can just jog the collective memory back to about 2001, when the A2 and Clio Renaultsport 172 first came out, I remember Autocar had their handling day. I believe this time they used Brands Hatch. Anyway the A2 was placed was a significant number of places above the Clio. The Clio RenaultSport which now has become elevated to godlike level. Although this thread nothing to do with a Clio, remembering this story has always reminded me to keep an open mind when reading these posts.
That's not to say Autocar are more right than PH users, but to say you shouldn't believe either and make up your own mind.
The A2 is a bit ugly but hey at least it's different. The 1.6 petrol is economical in the Golf Mk4 in my experience so don't think it would be bad in the A2. I passengered in an A2 and the 3-cylinder diesel was noisy but effective, but probably an acquired taste. As in, "can I possibly drive a car with a 3 cylinder diesel?".

What a bizarre post. Have you any proof on the demographic of A2 owners?
Thought not.

The A2`s main problem was it`s original price. The car was very advanced when it was released in terms of construction and aerodynamic detailing.
