Article should have read "Lexus reveals renderings of what they think their 1 series rival may look like".

They haven't shown the actual car, have they?
The renderings were a few weeks ago, this is the actual show car...not production car, show car, hence the 20"s, the tiny camera/mirrors....do some people have difficulty understanding how cars of this ilk are released?
BMW are famed for the M concept cars....Audi similarly...show stopping concepts that tease with slinky one off interiors and massive dubs.... but amamzingly when it comes to production are remarkably true to the show car externally...

I'll eat my hat if it doesn't look like that come 2010....the only caveat being, you'll have to go elsewhere for the 20"s, you'll get standard mirrors and all of the fancy materials used inside will become industry standard shiny/soft touch plastics... Its not too difficult to grasp is it?
They look rendered though, or at least heavily photoshopped to the point of not looking like photographs.

It could well look very much like that when it finally hits the metal.

Do you like ketchup with your hats?

Erm... yes, except it will be on display in Frankfurt at the motorshow next week.

Looks brilliant.
My only concern is what the driving dynamics are like. Personally I think it's the only place where Lexus trail a touch behind BMW.

Fingers crossed though as it looks very impressive.

The side profile reminds of Mazda3 and 1 series, but that's not surprising considering that's the market segment it's aimed at. However, like all recent Lexi and Toyotas, the front is appaling. I don't mind the wheels much, but'd prefer something more conservative for real world driving(which is what the production car will get). If they price it right they'll sell loads. Driving dynamics won't matter much to people who buy hybrid, 4 door hatches, so it'll probably be FWD. Think a more stylish Prius/Insight for the Hollywood set to clamor over.

This segment has to be the hardest one to make a distinctive-looking car in. To my eye they look all pretty much identical short of the odd detail and stuff like the lights and what not. Apart, ironically from the BMW 1-series, which in 5-door form just looks odd.

Anyway, looks OK, I guess. Whatever. Meh. Etc.

I admire the swiss watch engineering standards of the Lexus Brand (but less so the slightly bling styling cues from some other continent), but none has ever inspired me to buy one. This one looks like it's not going to change that. Nothing much not to like, but nothing at all to lust after either.

Do you think they could add rear doors like that to a Scirocco?

That interior is utterly revolting. I was actually quite excited when I first read the headline, but I'm utterly disappointed with the styling of the car.

It looks like something from "The Fast and the Furious". Just stick some "tribal" stickers on the side and you're all set. Horrible.
drop any car onto the deck and put 20"s on it and it'd look ready for the fast ad the furious...its a show car not production ready... a SHOW car...with jewellery to catch the SHOW lights and the SHOW photographers eye...so that makes headlines in the SHOW sections of motoring magazines...and generate interest for the production version YET TO BE SEEN.... jeez...
Easy tiger......Frankly I think the same about the new Sirocco......

I'd say that looks like the love child or a Ménage à trois between a Scirocco, an Astra and the new face-lifted Volvo C30 (front) which has then been dressed in a Seat Leon body kit.

Do Lexus have a lead designer? All they ever seem to do is "borrow" from European design and smooth it out.

And no way does that look like a coupe - same as the Scirocco it is a 3dr hatch. I'll reserve judgement until I see it in the production car in the flesh.

But it probably won't drive as nice.

It would be nice if it did however.
