I'll say it again - the Octavia vRS estate needs this engine and the awd.
Cut-price S4 bargain daily driver family wagon thing.
and i'll also repeat this. again.Cut-price S4 bargain daily driver family wagon thing.
as i have said before - car companies are rubbish. they add niche after niche and miss the flipping obvious options. they miss the opportunity to build cars that could actually make you think about the brand like you did when subaru first came on the scene with the impreza turbo. a bit 'underground' a bit 'cool'. a bit not hard to do because the octavia is available with the 4wd floorpan anyway for fvcks sake.
___
and i still don't understand the point of the scirocco. i like the look (personally) but i don;t understand it's role.
why not do a 5 dr golf r and the scirocco (if anything).

I've read a more detailed report that the expected price is £28500 when it goes on sale in October, with first deliveries in January. At that price, I hope it's not the usual VW nonsense of having to pay for every luxury that other manufacturers give you as standard!!! VW also say they've managed to cut the total weight by a whole 35kg, so it's still a lard ass at 1500kg in that case, and the bhp/ton is only 177 which is barely on par with the VXR, Megane 250 and 3MPS, never mind the RS, Evo FQ300 and STI that it's priced directly against.
So it has roughly the same power:weight as an Impreza WRX (180bhp/ton according to evo) but its £8,500 more. I wonder, are better quality plastics really worth it?EDLT said:

Bet it weighs a lot.
Always liked the R32 but its way too heavy.
Yes, having seen a hotted up Mk1 (and I know I'm a nostalgic tt....) at a recent hillclimb, there is no way in god's earth that thing would be able to corner so fast. Always liked the R32 but its way too heavy.
They have grown huge. Horrible big mondeo thing.

The Golf GTI is ridiculously priced when you consider that optioning up to match a standard S3 (eg adding heated leather, xenons, 18" alloys etc) closes the price gap to a point where the added class and oomph of the S3 suddenly seems well worth it.
This new Golf should have had 6-cylinders, as should the S3. Then they'd make sense and match the pricetags. An S3 Sportback would suit me admirably but the engine just didn't cut the mustard for me (in fact after the test-drive when asked why I wouldn't buy one, I singled out the characterless 4-pot engine as the sole culprit).

Seriously though mate, what attracted you to the E class over a whole host of other things you could have bought for 40k?
Not a dig, just interested.
A few things..i like the way it drives,i like the way it is built.I stopped buying MB cars for a while as i thought they were poorly made, not now.Not a dig, just interested.

The car will do about 15k miles per annum and i will keep it 3 years.I looked at the 3 series but i wanted to have a pillarless look which i like.
It seats my 2 kids comfortably, its very quiet and powerful enough for what i will use it for.
I did not want an Audi as i do not like the way they ride(same problem with the 3er)..also i am always swayed to German cars as i like the safety is also researched.
I am happy with my choice.
