That's a beautiful car and a nice repair. I'm guessing here but maybe it matters only when a write off in the second case means paying out the cars 'market value'. I have searched a V5 and cannot see any overt mention of any category so it's possible it gets overlooked withut an HPI.
Category C cars are listed on the V5.
Category D cars are not.

"Fresh" write-offs can take a while to go on the regsiter. They can come back HPi clear, and then go on oficially at a later date - which is very naughty. I bet there's a water tight disclaimer somewhere along the lines!

Cat C cars usually require a VIC check - You will need one if there is no V5, in order to obtain a V5.

The pics really inspire confidence, thanks. I'm due at the weekend to go look at a Cat D Vauxhall VX220 Turbo in Black, with 20k and looks immaculate!

Thanks again for all the replys.

Insurance is not affected if its a CAT D, no idea about CAT C as i've never owned one.

I'm running a CAT D Bora just now. I bought it from the insurance and repaired it myself. Runs like a dream and got an absolute bargain in the end.

I did try and sell it recently as i fancied a change but i found it very difficult to get interest. Maybe the high mileage, maybe the Cat D status, i'll never know. Doesn't matter anyway as i've had regretted it.
