I think you guys are missing the point...Part of what Honda have told me relates to the buyer working directly with mugan to build the car & that includes factory visits. After you have personlised the car the shell is sent to japan then returned to be finished.
The idea being fir around 40 big ones you get to experience the same detail that a race team does when getting their cars built, even just to register my interest I had to complete a questionaire in my favourite cars & which track days I planned to attend ( my car would ideally be built with the ring in mind)
you dont get any of this if you buy 2nd hand. What you do get is a car that will have been ragged round the ring a couple of hundred times & after the tyres & pads have been changed & the armourfend taken off a supposedly pristine car owned by a retired doctor who only used it on sunny weekends lol
That does sound a bit cooler actually. you guys are banging on about new vs used. has anyone seen how much focus rs' are going for second hand, i'm a few people will pay the £40k and they get some poor sod who's desperate for one to cough up £45k+ for it. let's just hope those that are "mad" enough to buy one keep them for what they are intended to be - future classic honda's that put a big smile on the drivers face.
personally i'm waiting for the rs's to drop below £20k before i even entertain the idea as a modified st can get the same figures obviously without the looks though.
am i missing something but why does the mugen site show the car to be red and on an 03 plate when they are only selling them in white and will be on 59/10 plates

I just dont understand why Honda spend stupid amounts of money producing a stupid car like this that no-one in their right mind will buy and they discontinue some of the best sports cars ever made, Integra, prelude, CRX, NSX etc.
Darn Honda, i used to love their cars from the late 90's

Mugen is a separate companyDarn Honda, i used to love their cars from the late 90's
Rite can we stop saying what you can buy 2nd hand for the same money!
If everyone thought like that there would be no new cars bought! Ffs!
As for future classics-I consider a classic to be not just an acclaimed car but one worth a lot of money-& no Morris cooper s is worth a lot of money unless it's been driven by paddy hopkirk!
But then again why would someone spend all that money on a second hand classic when they could buy a new mugan type r for the same price lol lol lol

I would be willing to bet they are not making anything on them, even at that price.
Sadly, this is the price you pay for a low volume car. Just look at a Caterham for example, other than the engine and gearbox the actual cost of the rest of the car is quite small. But they only produce a couple of dozen a month - so costs add up which makes the RRP high. If they sold 10,000 cars a year you could get an R500 for half the RRP.... but such is life. Thats half the attraction.
